We, most times, confuse conversation with communication, which is one of the reasons we get it wrong in business and other related endeavors. There are lots of cultural policies that control the means we talk to each other. There are forbidden subjects, there are certain methods of attending to individuals that are taken into consideration down right discourteous, and also usually, we utilize euphemisms to disguise our message and lessen its upsetting effect.

The belief that one can meet the challenge of life and succeed and act in a way that conveys that belief can be characterized as faith in oneself. Faith requires a realistic sense of skill and a sense of confidence in this knowledge. A realistic assessment of one's ability allows one to strike a healthy balance between too much and too little trust. Too much confidence is seen as cockiness and pride. Overestimating one's skills can lead to problems such as not having projects completed on time.

Its a short and very negatively opinion piece.
If I had bought this without a free credit I'd be upset. Its 34 minutes of experiential advice from someone who has clearly had a bad experience in the workplace. You could choose to live in a Machiavellian bubble as the author prescribes or you could just build better relationships with others. Its going to be returned.

Its a game you have to play
I remember back in University reading a journal on a similar topic, it found that the manager who socialised more and networked more in general were the ones that were promoted, over the managers who actually did their job effectively. Sad but true.
This audiobook is a good summary of this office game that you need to play to really get somewhere. It's all about perception, networking, playing that game.
I would disagree with the part about keeping your colleagues at arms length over making friends of them. Sure, keep your managers at arms length, but those on par with you i think you can successfully develop friendships with. I do agree with staying neutral with everyone and keeping your own plans close to your chest. On the flip side though, if you stay too quiet about your plans, you may find that there will be less opportunities given to you if you actually have a manager that cares. For example, I told my manager last year that I wanted to diversify from my job, and now I've been given the opportunity to learn a bit about github, and to create as well as manage a new process.
Asking for a favour and watching body language is an excellent point. I don't want to give everything away in my review though so I'll say no more. It's not expensive, its a quick listen, go buy it.
Narration was excellent, clear and easy to understand.

The art of office warfare!
I’ve never worked in a management structure like the ones that this book seems designed to help you navigate. But if the working corporate world is the way he paints it, this should be a helpful resource. I think I’ll steer clear of any multi-national corporations for a while.
