Summary

A plague has stricken Thebes. The citizens gather outside the palace of their king, Oedipus, asking him to take action. He replies that he has already sent his brother-in-law, Creon, to the oracle at Delphi for divine guidance. One of the greatest works of classical theatre is dramatically brought to life, in this tragic tale of prophecy, plague, murder, mystery and revenge. Audible presents one of the ancient world's greatest imaginations, in this dramatic, exclusive new recording.

Greek tragedy - does what it says on the tin!

I have enjoyed Shakespeare for many years but until recently haven't tried Greek classics. I really enjoyed these three tales by Sophocles. Not much in the way of happiness, but highly recommended nonetheless.

Excellent

I sometimes find books on audible hard to get into because the narrator’s voice jars me but this want the case here. The actors were awesome and whilst you remain aware it’s an ancient play, their approach renders the material accessible and even immediate to the modern ear. Bravo.

Tragically Brilliant

My first delve into the world of audiobooks and what a great start. Having read Oedipus The King many moons ago it was great to refresh my memory and in a far more personal way. The voice actors really bring the play to life and the impending tragedy is made all the more dramatic. I eagerly await listening to the second play Oedipus At Colonus

its Oedipus, its free and well performed.

For those not aware of what happens, then you are in for a bit of a journey, the power of this play never ceases to shock and amaze, the fact that it was written in 400 BC is of no consequence, it is timeless.
