Summary

Jacky Leon isn’t someone who goes looking for trouble. She owns a bar, pays her taxes, and serves her drinks cold outside a small town in Texas. The fact that she’s a werecat is just something she’s had to live with. Alone in her territory, she’s lived a secretive life for six years: under the radar, avoiding her past and the baggage that comes with it.

Trouble finds Jacky, though, in the form of an 11-year-old girl and a werewolf turf war just outside her borders. Forced to honor an ancient treaty and the Laws of the supernatural world, Jacky swears an oath to protect Carey Everson, the human daughter of a local werewolf Alpha from Dallas.

When his enemies come after Jacky and her charge, she’s going to have to embrace the more dangerous side of who and what she is. She’s going to have to challenge the very Laws that govern her kind.

And nothing is going to stop her from honoring her word.

Great listen!

I love these books and had read them before getting the audiobook. I am quite picky about narrator's voices but love this one. She expresses the feelings fully without it seeming overacted. Jacky Leon is a great character and I want to hear what will happen in her life next.

Okay Read

The story has a okay plot about the conflict between honour and law. After a very slow start - I almost gave up - the plot line improved with a few surprises and plot twists before a somewhat predictable ending. That said, I enjoyed it and would buy the next book in the series and look out for other books from this author.

Jacky Leon is up there with Mercy Thompson

Jacky Leon is up there with Mercy Thompson and Kate Daniels in terms of quality Urban Fantasy books. She is compelling and the world is rich and expansive. This plot revolves around protecting the human daughter of a werewolf alpha, when called to Duty. Jacky is justice. She knows what is right and what is wrong. And no matter how hard she will do what is right, even if it means breaking one or more of the Laws that govern supernaturals. I love her and I cannot wait for the more.

Interesting story, but

I bought this book based on the previous reviews of other readers, who exclaimed that this was a girl with Kick-Ass efforts on her part and taking no prisoners!

In my opinion, I was disappointed in the sense that she did not have the skills to fight as well as I thought she should, nor the situational awareness during the fighting, and she constantly was getting beat up and hurt herself, even though she took out several of the opponent's!

Additionally, there was far too much drama, introspection, whining, etc, for my appreciation, plus it appears to be devolving into a romance novel!

I will not continue this series!

Jacky Leon is BadA$$ with a heart

KN Banet never fails to bring it! No matter the series, she keeps you hooked and wanting more! I am not a fan of Audible books, but this was well done! I read the book as well as listened and the Narrator did a great job of keeping me engrossed in the story line. Jacky Leon is tough and I love that the main story line is completed, so you are not left in a cliffhanger, yet the back story keeps you intrigued and looking forwards to the next issue.

Looking forward to more.

It took me a while to finish this book. I've run i to a few series that started slow and got better and better in subsequent books. Hopefully this is one of those. The main character seems to be well thought out and has plenty of room to grow as well as a interesting backstory.

3.5 Stars: The Writing Improves as You Go

The poor writing and excessive monologue put me off at first, but by the end the author's writing had improved somewhat, enough that i stopped noticing it. I'm hopeful for the next book. I liked the ending enough to get the next book. Though one review complained the book is shaping up to be a romance, there actually isn't ANY romance in this one - not even the semi-lecherous inner dialogue (thank goodness) that appears in half the fantasy books that I read.
I recommend this series, and I'm interested to see how Jackie's relationships evolve.

Werecat Power!

I’ve been on a paranormal/urban fantasy kick lately and I’m so glad this book was recommended to me by the Goodreads algorithm.

The story was unique, a completely different take on supernatural beings coexisting with humans and their role in the society. All of this was told in a great way.

The MCs are fleshed out and I love Jacky’s quiet strength and resilience. I hardly read MF books anymore because chances are the female protagonist would just annoy me, but with Jacky, that’s not the case and that’s refreshing.

I can’t wait for more!

Wonderful book

Love this book. Reluctant hero has a parental bond thrust upon her, and has to rise to the challenge. Does some growth of her own along the way.

I couldn't have asked for a better narrator for a Werecat. Mx. Gilmore has an almost purr to her voice. She had no problems with doing male voices (this is a pet peeve of mine).

happily addicted

I bought this on a whim and was very pleased by the purchase. Jacky is easy to love and cheer on in her adventures. I was not once bored or ready to put the book down. I'm really looking forward to getting to learn more about the back stories of these characters and see where they go next.
I'll definitely listen on.
