Summary

Raised by the Cuban cartel, Nicho "Oz" Ozele learned early on that it was far better to be feared than loved. Now he'll use everything in his formidable arsenal to stay alive. Even if it means abducting the incredibly enticing sister of his most hated enemy. Wanted by the mob and running from the deadly Incola virus, Oz turns to the only family he has left - the Bracadytes. Taken hostage by her father's killer, Maria wants nothing more than to see Oz dead for his crimes against her family. With all she has, she fights Oz at every turn. Until one night on the open water, he risks his life to save hers, forcing Maria to choose between the need for revenge and her heart's strongest desire.

Oz and Maria

Oz and Maria's story is another unique story of the Bracadytes. Oz is a half human and Bracadyte who fallen in love with a beautiful Cuban woman Maria, even though she was the daughter of the man who killed his mother. Although that revenge is what brought them together, Oz had finally found his mate. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series that gets better and better each book.

Great book, a bit of graphic violence

This is a great story and addition to the series. Importantly (especially from someone who did not read the books in order), the stories make much more sense when you read them in order. There is a significant arc that goes through the stories. This book follows Oz and Maria. Maria believes Oz is her enemy since he killed her father. But her father killed his parent too. So, can they get over this (admittedly really big) barrier? Since Maria's dad was such a bad person (her brother too- shudder), they in fact get their HEA but boy, is it a tense ride!! I think there are a lot more triggers in this book- some really bad situations that can be difficult to read/listen to. I did have some issues and I was looking forward to finishing so I could just enjoy their HEA. I liked both characters and it was great to see other previous (and future) characters.

As always, Mack is a great narrator- he is so good at playing multiple characters and i'm frankly impressed that he remembers the voices for the different characters so well. It's quite easy to listen to the stories because there is such differentiation in voices between characters, which is especially evident during conversations. Also, great pacing, timing and emotion help with making his narration especially good! I requested and received this audiobook.

Stole the very breath from my lungs

I never expected to read the beautifully intense story that unfolded before me. Each step of the journey was wrought with one revelation after another that twisted my heart and shredded my very soul. Both Maria and Oz unknowingly built the foundation of a new life that tore open the secrets of their hearts to be seen, dealt with, and turned into reason for so much more between them. Facing their greatest nightmares and coming out stronger and scarred spurred them to confront their deepest desires and understand that they were all for the taking. They just needed to reach out and grab them one by one before it was too late.

All of this never took away from the intensity and wonder of the greater story at hand that is weaved tightly into each individual couple's harrowing journey in finding each other. This author never wavers in her wonderfully complex plot, and I love how she is able to use each story to delve deeper into this fantastically refreshing story of desperate survival and devastating betrayal of both human and alien. I am so anxious to see what happens next!

Johnny Mack made this story come to live in a way that made my heart soar. He is a phenomenal narrator that knows how to bring justice and full live to a character without losing a beat in the greater landscape of the story. I have enjoyed every story that he has read in this series, and I can't wait to continue to enjoy the next stories to come.

The best book I've listened to in a while!

This book is seriously a 5 star all around! The story was hot, romantic, intense. The Narrators voice was just as erotic as the book. I could listen to Johnny forever. I have never read or listened to a PNR before but after this one I now NEED to listen to the series from the beginning! I would highly recommend this book. Ditter Kellen did an amazing job at drawing me into the PNR world! #audiobookobsessions

Enemies to lovers

What happens when your enemy becomes your lover. For Maria and Oz it becomes about saving the world they have built for themselves. On to a drug lord, Maria has a hard time trusting people. Oz used to work for said drug lord. But left on bad terms. Supernatural elements thrown in make this a great listen. I reviewed this book after receiving a ARC copy.

A Great Listen

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. What happens when the enemy stops being the enemy. Oz finds himself in this situation with the woman he plans on using to get his revenge for his mother's death, and she hates him for killing her father. They find themselves both being hunted by her brother. If that wasn't bad enough the virus has arrived in Cuba. The characters are interesting and well written. This action packed novel is at time intense and will keep you listening long after you should have turned it off. Looking forward to the next book.

Best of the series so far!

Now I'm fully invested in these characters. I think that speaks to the author being able to flesh out their world with believable continuity.

Good read in a very good series

My sixth read/listen from author Ditter Kellen. After reading the sixth book in this series I went back to start at the beginning of the series and read Enigma, then Naura, book 2 in the series then Vaulcron, book 3, Zaureth, book 4 and now Oz, book 5. With each book Kellen writes the story-line gets more enticing drawing the reader deeper & deeper. Narrator Johnny Mack has become the voice of the aliens and his talented narration adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Well-written romantic sci-fic/suspense, with well-developed characters. Now on to Braum! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018). (less)

Worthless Family! 😒😠😡🙅🏾

have listened to all of the books in the Enigma series. We knew who Oz however we only got bits and pieces of who he is and where he came from. what made him into who he is today? When we ended up leaving Oz in Zaureth he was trying to capture the mob boss by taking his sister Maria, the heroine.

In this book Oz explains to Maria why he ended up killing her father. We get to see two dynamics in this book. One is with Maria and her brother. She tries so hard to want a relationship with her father and her brother that she ends up subjecting herself to emotional abuse. Oz on the other hand does not try to get love from anybody and yet everybody around him ends up loving and respecting him.

This book has a lot of drama and conflict between the heroine and the hero versus everyone else. I did like this book however I have to admit that it is not as good as Zaureth. There is something off about him Oz that I did not like and that also goes for Maria. It is a good book within the series but it is not a book that I will see myself listening to repeatedly.
