Um das mais importantes obras de Baudelaire, ao lado de As flores do mal, este livro (que é também conhecido como O spleen de Paris) é uma reunião de escritos do autor publicada postumamente, em 1869. Os poemas consumiram mais de dez anos até sua feição definitiva, muitos inclusive já haviam aparecido em jornais e receberam de pronto a estima e a admiração da crítica e do público, e foram primeiramente organizados por Théodore de Banville e Charles Asselineau. A obra resultante é tida hoje como algumas das mais importantes páginas já escritas da literatura universal. Esta presente edição saiu à luz pela primeira vez em 1988 pela editora da Universidade de Santa Catarina.
