Summary

The trouble with running away is that you take yourself with you.

After police officer Colleen McDonald is injured in a case gone south and her partner dies, she leaves her job and friends in small town Pine Hills Oregon for a fresh start as a civilian in Orlando. When a deputy sheriff comes to her door investigating a possible missing person, she’s determined to get him out of her life by beating him at his own game.

Jeffrey Walters is missing - or is he? His stepdaughter insists he is. His aunt claims he’s simply out of town on business. His former business partner knows nothing. There’s a stranger living in his guesthouse.

To Deputy Sheriff Graham Harrigan, finding Jeffrey might be his ticket to a permanent slot in the Criminal Investigations Division. He’s determined to prove he’s worthy of the promotion despite an unearned reputation passed down by an unsavory training partner. The attractive woman living in Jeffrey’s guesthouse complicates matters. Their rivalry becomes a partnership that stretches the boundaries of a professional relationship.

Nowhere to Hide

features Colleen McDonald, a character first introduced in Finding Sarah, Book 1 in the Pine Hills Police Series. In series chronology, the book would fall between Finding Sarah and Hidden Fire, but Nowhere to Hide stands alone and can be heard in any order.

Story didn't quite engage me

What disappointed you about Nowhere to Hide?

I expected a more assertive heroine at the center of the story.

Which character – as performed by Kelley Hazen – was your favorite?

Graham. Kelley makes him sound very down-to-earth and likeable. The landlady is also fun to listen because of all the crazy ups and downs of her personality.

Any additional comments?

The main character, Colleen, comes off as insecure and weak. It's okay for everybody to feel this way in some situations, but in this case, these are the key aspects of her personality. There was no growth, no overcoming her weaknesses. She even calls herself a coward and behaves like one. It's hard to like someone (a character) that doesn't like herself. Great audio rendition, but disappointing female character.

Worth Listening

If you could sum up Nowhere to Hide in three words, what would they be?

Romance, Intrigue, Perfect

What other book might you compare Nowhere to Hide to and why?

Kendra Elliot's Hidden. Both have the perfect dose of romance and suspense. The characters were likable and the stories are well written.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Mac shot at the bad guy. At that point she reacted like the well trained police officer she has once been and faced her problem. She didn't freeze, she just did what she had to do and I applaud her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I am a sucker for romantic suspense novels and this one has both in spades. The story is well balanced, the right amount of romance and suspense. The chemistry between the characters was electrifying without being too mushy. The only thing I would have love in the story was an epilogue. But even the fact that it didn't have one, didn't refrain me from giving it a five.
There are three more books in the series before this one, but it can be read as a stand alone. Try it, you're going to love it! Enjoy!!! ;)

A Great Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very entertaining. After a tragedy in Pine Hills, Mac moves to Florida to get away from everything police. Only across the country isn't quite far enough, her first day in her new home, she is opens to her door to find a Deputy. It seems her landlord is missing and his daughter is looking for him. Mac finds herself involved in an investigation as she starts a new life with new friends, when the unthinkable happens. This book is based on some of the characters from the Pine Hills series, but it's not necessary to listen to the others, unless you enjoy suspense and romance mixed together. The author does an excellent job of it and the narrator brings the characters to life for you.
