Summary

New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee delivers the fifth heartwarming, flirty novel in the wildly popular Not Quite series.

Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It's both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy - until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.

At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both - especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company's planes. But no matter how close they get, they're still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary's life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn't have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it's too late?

Couldn't ask for more

I laughed and cried and finished with a happy sigh! Mary Francis had me in stitches. Glen panicking from miles away had my heart rate up. Great book, well narrated and a good lesson too because call me paranoid, but I could not understand how she blithely shared so many details of her life with people she hardly knew. Be open and friendly but be safe. No one needs to know when your bf is out of town for the wknd.

Decent romance, but nothing memorable

“Mary” and “Glen”?! Seriously, these are NOT good names for a couple in a romance - unless they are both 90 years old and celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. So please, Ms Bybee, think twice next time about the names you give your characters!

I love books by Catherine Bybee but this one was a little disappointing. It featured a great couple, and the sort of romance we would all love to have, but unfortunately this doesn’t make the most enthralling reading. The couple had met occasionally over the past year before the book started, and were obviously attracted to each other, and both were upfront and realistic about the difficulties their relationship faced. I couldn’t understand why the h was portrayed as an abandoned baby growing up in foster care without family, when it turns out she actually had a strong mother figure who had always been a big part of her life, and still was. The commitment issues, and “player” reputation of the H also didn’t have any logical source apart from being a convenient plot device to explain why the h initially was hesitant about getting involved with him.

That said, I did enjoy the book, just nothing about it was memorable, or made be put it into the “listen to again” pile.
