About this listen

A lady hidden in the shadows . . .

It's never been easy to be one of the five Templeton sisters, but for quiet Emmeline, the silver lining surrounding the dark cloud of her family's disgrace is a quiet life of comfortable obscurity. But when her sister accepts an outrageous wager that takes her to London for a season, an unexpected kiss with a handsome earl thrusts shy Emmeline into the middle of a shocking public scandal.

A dazzling earl with the ton at his feet . . .

Johnathan Parrish, the Earl of Melrose, never meant to kiss Emmeline Templeton. Emmeline Templeton is perfectly wrong for him, and he's never before spared the shy wallflower a single glance, but after one kiss, the memory of her warm curves are imprinted forever on Johnathan's fingertips, and he can't forget the sweet taste of her lips against his.

A dizzying spark of desire . . .

But wherever the Templeton family ventures, gossip and rumor inevitably follow. If the secret wager is revealed, it will shake London to its foundations. Will the blazing passion that brought Emmeline and Johnathan together end in a happily ever after, or will their hearts fall victim to the consuming flames?

Contains mature themes.

I found the heroine to be a really tedious character.

In a nutshell, she creates situations, then cries off, makes thrm infinitely worse & then acts like a martyr...

I much preferred Juliette, her sister, who seemed to be not only intelligent, spunky, has a backbone & is a go-getter, whereas this heroine is forever wallowing in her own self-pity!

Honestly, I actually came to root for tye hero to tell her t9 do one.

Also one of my pet hates is authors using the very old cliché, of I'll stand aside, so the person I love & a loved one can be together... which is all well & good, unless it's for a family member & that would mean that you'd forever see the person you're in love with someone else... a stranger I can kind of understand as you'd rarely see them...

All in all, thankfully it was a short, but I did have to speed it up as I just wanted to be dkne with it!

tiresome heroine

Loved this story which is fairly simple in premise but well told, of sisters caught in an old scandal that threatens their future happiness. Characters were people you could believe in and root for. Heather Wilds as ever brings even the simplest of stories and even minor characters to perfect life.

Amazing narration as ever from Heather Wilds

Good narration although the narrator has a strange habit of repeating the same tone for successive phrases where isn’t appropriate, which is distracting.

The heroine is daft i dusting her supposedly beloved sister marry the man SHE loves to avoid gossip that any fool could see is temporary, breaking the heart of the man she loves and apparently so self absorbed as to be oblivious to her sister’s obvious love for a different man. Why would a sensible man love such a stupid, pathetic, selfish, paranoid, cruel woman?

No idea but if course since nobody does fall in love in 6 days of occasional meetings, we can assume that he doesn’t and wouldn’t. Quite apart from that most women do not feel drawn to a man who kisses them while murmuring some other woman’s name- it’d take more than a week to develop any trust in such a guy!

Tediously silly. Good job it’s free.

I know a lot of folk like this Narrator, but for me, it is like listening to a horse racing commentator where they round every sentence as if they are talking in short pronounced statements. The up and down lilt is BEYOND irrating, which is a shame because she is a clear pleasant speaker. The story seems to concentrate on a lost rose bush.... Zzzzzzzzz

A lovely simple regency romance
