Summary

Jane Austen's first novel - published posthumously in 1818 - tells the story of Catherine Morland and her dangerously sweet nature, innocence, and sometime self-delusion. Though Austen's fallible heroine is repeatedly drawn into scrapes while vacationing at Bath and during her subsequent visit to Northanger Abbey, Catherine eventually triumphs, blossoming into a discerning woman who learns truths about love, life, and the heady power of literature. The satirical novel pokes fun at the gothic novel while earnestly emphasizing caution to the female sex.

horrible narration

Great story, horrible narration. He sounds bored with himself. Glad it was less than a dollar.

Very different

My favorite Jane Austen novel. Great story, but uneven narrator. The performance was strange. And the recording quality was inconsistent. I eventually got used to the performance, but it wasn’t done in a way that truly encompasses the story for me.

Narrator was horrible. Very hard to understand. I could not finish the story. The story was also slow to become interesting.

Horrible

Sorry to say because I love the book. Couldn't hear well. Very low even with earphones but didn't matter. So bad I quit at Chapter 2. Dull.

Terrible echoing in the background

The echoing behind the narration is terrible and distracts away from the story. I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated that I am now stuck with this narration. The story itself is wonderful, but I couldn't bring myself to listen past the first few words.

Was this recorded at the bottom of a well?

The narrator is boring and lacks the resonance and story aptitude one would expect for a Jane Austen novel. Extremely disappointed.

Couldn't finish

No idea how the story was, the narrator was to bad that I couldn't listen any longer than 2 chapters.

Didn’t care for narrative

Would like to return based on this narration. Read the book before and liked it as many Austin books.
