Story
Paying attention to every detail, Amy Hughes collected many stories, myths, legends, and tales of the pagan Scandinavian rituals, gods, and heroes. Narrated in such a descriptive way, the stories will transfer you to a time long gone, and you’ll feel as if you’re been a witness to the Viking’s incredible history! But this book does not only present the mythological, abstract world of Scandinavian beliefs and religion.

Story
The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

Story
A new narrative history of the Viking Age, interwoven with exploration of the physical remains and landscapes that the Vikings fashioned and walked: their rune stones and ship burials, settlements and battlefields. To many, the word Viking brings to mind red scenes of marauders from beyond the sea rampaging around the British coastline in the last gloomy centuries before the Norman Conquest. And it is true that Britain in the Viking Age was a turbulent, violent place. This is not, however, the whole story.

Story
Eight hundred years ago, an heir to the Vikings collected their myths and wrote them down. Here are those original tales of Odin and Thor, magic and might, presented for your listening enjoyment. The Prose Edda (also known as Snorri's Edda or The Younger Edda) is a manual of poetics written by Snorri Sturluson around the year 1220. In it, Snorri compiled the old myths and legends of the Norsemen, in order that poets from his time might draw on these stories to keep the Icelandic-Viking heritage alive.

It is Zeus, the king of the gods, who triggers the war when he asks the Trojan prince Paris to judge the fairest goddess of them all. Aphrodite bribes Paris with the heart of Helen, wife of King Menelaus of the Greeks, and naturally, nature takes its course.

Story
The period between the end of the eighth century CE and the middle of the 11th is often called the “Viking Age” because this is the period in which Scandinavian people expanded their contacts with the outside world through trade, raiding, exploration, and colonization. This volume presents a version of Ragnar’s saga compiled from different modern sources, along with information providing additional historical and documentary context, followed by a discussion of some aspects of modern appropriations and representations of ancient Norse culture.

They did use their skills as warriors to relentlessly attack Europe and the British Isles to increase their wealth and territory, but that is not all the Vikings were, and their contribution to world history is far more than warmongering. In this captivating history audiobook, you'll not only learn about heroic warriors in battle but you'll also discover the remarkable achievements made by the Vikings.

Story
The Viking Age - from 750 to 1050 saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples into the wider world. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they ranged from eastern North America to the Asian steppe. But for centuries, the Vikings have been seen through the eyes of others, distorted to suit the tastes of medieval clerics and Elizabethan playwrights, Victorian imperialists, Nazis, and more. None of these appropriations capture the real Vikings, or the richness and sophistication of their culture.

The climate of the Earth has changed throughout history. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth's orbit that changes the amount of solar energy. The trend toward current warming is particularly important because the bulk of this phenomenon (more than 95 percent probability) has undoubtedly been the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and is at an unprecedented rate over decades to thousands of years.

Great personal insight
- By Blinkinmarvellous on 13-04-13
Summary
This audiobook narrates the mesmerizing tale revolving around the mysterious and profound Norse folklore and the beguiling lifestyle of the legendary Vikings. This book has connected all the pieces of the puzzle and presents a unique tapestry interwoven with multiple threads from the different sides of Norse mythology that contains all the answers about the legendary Vikings and their beliefs.
In contrast to the common misconception about the Vikings that they were ruthless agnostics and brutes and not much more than that, the book provides valuable insight into the polytheistic religion of the Vikings. It also provides an in-depth knowledge about their culture - whether they did have a culture at all - and whether they were the brutes that most accounts of their existence and activities say they were?
Find out the truth about the Vikings and how they are actually portrayed by the Norse folklore. Learn why they moved out of their country and how they conducted raids across the globe and conquered areas. This book covers everything from the Norse gods to the sumptuous heaven perceived by the Norse mythology and religion as the place where the most honorable warriors live - the magnificent Valhalla.
In Norse mythology, there is a unique approach toward all the heavenly and godly creations as well as phenomena. The dividing line in the day and night, as well as the changing shades of weather, are described. The origin of every object and every phenomenon in the world has a fanciful tale attached to it in the unique and mysterious Norse mythology that the Scandinavian people believed in, centuries ago.
To cut a long story short, this book holds in it a beguiling and thrilling tale of the beliefs of an enchanting and historic population written in a piquing manner.
Norse Mythology provides:
- Detailed account of the Vikings - their origin, culture, religion, and activities
- Insight into the polytheistic religion and culture of the Norse people - the deities and the folklore
- Detailed account of all the Norse mythological and religious beliefs - from the conception of the world to the concept of nine alternate universes
- Fanciful tales about all the Norse mythological creatures and deities

Just awful
The narration kills this book. Jumps around back and forth. The use of “mammoth “ instead of giant is annoying! The use of “ pontoon “ instead of boat is also annoying. I understand the guy is English but no need to change the vocabulary of the story or jump around. He also unnecessarily repeats himself just to fill space. Save your money better books are available.
