Summary

Explore captivating myths of the Norse Gods and heroes

The stories from Norse mythology linger in our culture today. Four days of our week are named after members of the Norse pantheon (Tyr, Woden [Odin], Thor, and Frigg). Wagner’s Ring Cycle has kept one version of one of the great Norse stories alive in the minds of music lovers. Fans of modern fantasy will find many echoes of the Norse tales as well. Something in these old and puzzling stories still has the power to move and unsettle us and to inspire new acts of creation.

This audiobook will give you a brief introduction to some of the best-known myths found in the primary sources. This audiobook includes a glossary of names in case you need help keeping track of a rather large cast of characters. Enjoy your explorations!

Within this audiobook, you'll find the following Norse myths and topics covered:

  • The creation of the worlds
  • The building of Asgard
  • Why Odin has one eye and Tyr has one hand
  • The mead of poetry
  • Loki the thief
  • Love and trouble
  • Thor the bride
  • Thor’s adventures in Utgard
  • Odin the host and Odin the guest
  • Andvari’s curse
  • Regin and Sigurd
  • Sigurd and the dragon
  • The marriage of Sigurd
  • Brynhild’s betrayal
  • The death of Sigurd

still good

It is a rather simplistic view of the Norse gods! Still informative for those not well versed on the subject!

Change bad habits into good

Any additional comments?

it's beautiful, I LISTEN to it and almost exploded with happiness. I used the microwave to make fresh cookies to help me calm down. This is best read when eating cookies on a warm day in the sun.

Decent modern telling

Any additional comments?

I think will provide entertainment for the casual and seasoned reader alike. They're like fairy tales for adults. I would like to see Matt write one epic novel about the Norse gods, but I'm not sure if he is interested. Recommended.

the author’s Gods with a modern touch

Any additional comments?

Matt tells the tales in a voice which smoothly transitions from epic narrative to plainspoken facts and back again. An enjoyable book, the author’s Gods with a modern touch that makes their personalities and wit as accessible to a listener as if you were a child at a campfire, listening to ghost stories.

Well retold stories

Any additional comments?

He presents the Norse stories of old in a simple, engaging fashion. Listening it was an absolute pleasure. I bought this to get ready for the new God of War game, as I imagine many folks did as well, and I was not disappointed. The book gives you insight into some of the more popular Norse myths: consider it Norse mythology

Good stories.

Norse mythology is incredibly interesting and this book does a good job at presenting these tales. My biggest gripe lies with the narrator. He can be pretty dry at times. His biggest issue is the way he says certain names. The way he says Mjölnir, Thor's hammer, makes me think he never read the word before and came up with his own way. But that might be my fault as a Swede to expect a more Scandinavian way of saying these names.

Good for mythology fans -- but a bit too scholarly

This is an accurate retelling of the norse mythology. However, being accurate, it lacks many of the literary flourishes found in other retellings. But still a good telling.

Great book.

Any additional comments?

Really solid foundation of the old tales. Perfect for kids, I'd go as far to say it's good enough to be an effective book for adults to learn a brief but proper understanding of norse myth before launching in to the deep stuff.

Great introduction to the subject.

Any additional comments?

This would not be the ultimate reference for a serious and dedicated student of the topic, but is an excellent book for someone either new to the topic or at least only moderately knowledgeable. The author accomplishes exactly what he set out to do.

Accurate details

I’ve always been fascinated by Norse myths and since two months ago I started searching for different versions. This is an accurate detail and has been written in a creative way. As a matter of fact, I finish it in one sitting.
