About this listen

Her city is under siege.

The zombies are coming back.

And all Nona wants is a birthday party.

In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.

The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.

And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

A confusing amazing story which made me cry, and question my own memories of the earlier books. This series is amazing. I love Nona.

Beautiful

Goodness, how to write a review about Nona the Ninth! I loved Nona, her naivety, the way she looked at life, the fact that she loved everyone she met. And it started by inviting dogs to her birthday party! What's not to like?

Nona the Ninth carries on from Harrow the Ninth, but don't expect familiar places or peoples (or certainly not to begin with). It takes a while to workout who is with Nona in this new place. Tamsyn Muir has written another book set within the 9 houses landscape, but don't think you're going to recognise the land - or maybe you will. Nona has been living for 6 months (hence the 6 month birthday party) and is a teachers aide. This is a job she likes as she gets to look after Noodle, the 6 legggled dog, during the Angel's science hour. The children in the school do have odd nom de plumes, (except Kevin), and they love the Angel and want to protect her.

I listened to this book, read by the fabulous Moira Quirk. Her narration is second to none, and I often look for books narrated by her.

I hope the 4th book comes out in 2025, though I'll have to re listen to the first 3 to remind myself of what happened. I did find myself laughing more with this book, I think Nona's outlook on life is very joyous, which makes the dark parts even more dark.

The End? I don't think so....

this is an amazing book which is such a sad and moving installment in the series. I am literally crying at the ending. I am undone (a quote from book 1) it's so good. I cannot wait for book 4.

try not to make my cry so much

Well if you're at this point reading my review you've already got through the confusion of Harrow the Ninth and it just gets better from there. Still lots of lovely confusion but much clearer in this one for me. I did have to clarify a couple of bits online after I finished but this book has lots of answers about the history of it all which is brilliant. On to the next book which I'm thoroughly looking forward to now.

The best narration by Moira Quirk as usual which is very appreciated with so many characters.

Wow just wow.

I’ll be honest this book felt like a fever dream, but this is easily my favourite book series I’ve ever read.
Moira Quirk is so talented in bringing the story to life.

This series is INSANE but I love it
