Publisher's Summary

The NBC journalist who covered - and took fire from - Donald Trump on the campaign trail offers an inside look at the most shocking presidential election in American history.

Katy Tur was one of a select cadre of NBC reporters on the road during the grueling 2016 presidential campaign, reporting from small towns and venues across America for more than 16 months. At the beginning of the primaries, Tur was assigned the Trump campaign - a campaign widely considered a long shot by politicos and the media. But primary after primary, the novice outsider trumped his rivals and won the hearts and votes of many Republicans. His appeal to working-class whites, the GOP's traditional middle and upper middle class base, and conservative evangelicals took him all the way to the White House, astonishing the nation and the world.

Unbelievable is Tur's inside account of being embedded with the campaign, revealing what it was like to report on the most combative and volatile major party candidate ever to run for office and win. At first Trump tried to charm Tur into providing fawning coverage. When that didn't work, he stooped to berating and shaming her, stoking the rage of his legion of supporters - many who threatened Tur and other penned-in reporters at his events. The vitriol reached such a fever pitch that following one rally, during which Trump launched a personal attack against her, the Secret Service had to accompany Tur to her car. But Katy was not alone. Millions of Americans watched in disbelief as Trump ordered Tur to "be quiet" during one of his many press conferences and called her "disgraceful", "third-rate", "not nice", and "Little Katy". In response thousands of people across the country rushed to her defense, tweeting #imwithtur.

Intriguing, disturbing, and powerful, Unbelievable is an unprecedented eyewitness account of the 2016 election from an intelligent, dedicated journalist at the center of it - a thoughtful historical record that offers eye-opening insights and details on our political process, the media, and the mercurial 45th president of the United States.

Listened to on vacation and finished in two days. Extremely entertaining and gives true insight into an election that I still struggle to cope with.

    "Amazing!"

I was a little hesitant to get this, but I'm so happy I did.

This is everything I imagined went on behind the scenes of these events and exactly the impression I get when I saw these events live on TV. Great perspective and the flow keeps you engaged.

    "Meh...."

of you followed the campaign, there's not much new here. the most interesting part was about her parents. she's not a great writer. and I like the F word as much as anyone, but I don't like it being one of the main adjectives in a book I'm reading.

"Witty, Personal & Funny at Times"

Being an avid news watcher, there were no real surprises but a thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced "read" that brings back the details of the campaign from a different perspective. Cudos to Katy for having survived the wild ride. She's brave, witty, smart, fast on her feet and yet remains human.

"A terrific job on all counts"

I wondered if it would be painful to revisit the Trump victory, but this was a great experience. The author's voice and attitude is just right --bold but never arrogant, honest about the ups and downs and some humiliations she endured during her 500+ days on the campaign trail. I particularly appreciated that she doesn't sugarcoat her opinions. When I heard her pronounce the word "epilogue" I literally groaned with disappointment that it was soon ending.

    "Depressing and enraging"

While well written and performed well, the subject matter serves as a stark reminder of the train wreck of the past few years that is American politics.

This story highlights how the press is complicit, and continues to be unapologetic, about the role they played in the outcome of the election, and how they continue to enable the "fake news" cycle.

"Best book on presidential reporting in decades"
What made the experience of listening to Unbelievable the most enjoyable?

Katy's depiction of exhaustion, fear and confusion as well as her self deprecating sence of humor makes this book a remarkable insight into an unbeliveble presidential campaign.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Katy
I feel I really know her now and would like to have her over for a few bottles of wine.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There were so many I can't choose one

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Defiantly

    Any additional comments?

I hope HBO makes a film about it like Game Change and Recount.

    "Don't Bother Buying This Book"

Don,t bother buying this book. I could only listen to eight minutes of this garbage speed by a resentful foul mouthed liberal. Instead of writing an honest account of her time on the campaign trail with President Trump's party she chose to dive into the swamp and scream liberal talking points. If you want to hear from a vindictive loser, then by all means, buy this book. As for me, I will be getting my money back.

    "What's left to say?"

Katy Tur opens up and shares a glimpse into her world, her experience, and her self. Poinignt and witty, "My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History" walks us through what all we lived from the vantage point of behind the scenes and on-the-road. She definitely deserves that cookie, and that one, and that one too. A true delight, I couldn't stop once I started...listening that is, not the cookies. But I'll take one of those too.

    "Rude, but true"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Katy does a good job laying out what she saw. And what she saw was a crazy three-ring circus. Like Trump or hate him, the campaign was bizarre.

What about Katy Tur’s performance did you like?

Because she lived it you can sense the passion in her voice.
