Summary

Have you ever wondered why ice floats and water is such a freaky liquid? Or why chilis and mustard are both hot but in different ways? Or why microwaves don't cook from the inside out?

In this fascinating scientific tour of household objects, The One Show presenter and all-round science bloke Marty Jopson has the answer to all of these and many more baffling questions about the chemistry and physics of the everyday stuff we use every day.

Dear Marty,

Any additional comments?

Thank you for a very engaging book, I loved it, please make another. But next time, perhaps ease up on the over-emphatic enunciation and the slightly naff humour at the end of each chapter.

Thought provoking and excellently interesting

What does Marty Jopson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The reader has a knack to breaking down complex topics to an understandable and enjoyable level. He uses his own anecdotes and explains his thoughts on the subjects at hand from his previous perspective prior to his scientific understanding.

Any additional comments?

Having studied in chemistry and biochemistry, more of the challenging concepts in the book were more readily understandable to me. Though not a book written exclusively for the academic or graduate level reader, some of the finer points MAY be lost on a reader coming with no baseline scientific knowlede / way of thinking

A fun and interesting little book.

Lots of intriguing trivia to impress you friends and family with, and a surprising number of everyday phenomena that science has yet to fully understand.

The author does a decent job as his own narrator.

The book has some great insights

Would you consider the audio edition of The Science of Everyday Life to be better than the print version?

I had the print version on my kindle device along with the audio narration, so together it was a great experience.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Science of Everyday Life?

Some of the topics covered delve right into areas for which you always wanted to know the answer to e.g. why windows mist up in winter and what you could potentially do to mitigate.

What does Marty Jopson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His engaging and enthusiastic delivery of the book.

Interesting and informative.

This was interesting and informative. I will need to listen to it a few times to remember most of the facts about every day stuff you didn't even known you wanted to know.
