Summary

Every day women are reinventing what it means to be female in cultures where power, privilege or basic freedoms are all too often equated with being male. One of the most tenacious campaigners of her generation, Caroline Criado-Perez introduces us to these pioneering women.

We meet the first woman to cross the Antarctic alone; a female fighter pilot in Afghanistan; a Chilean revolutionary turned politician; and the Iranian journalist who dared to uncover her hair.

Brilliant story telling

I found myself utterly immersed into these women's stories on my daily commute of an hour each way- just right to complete a chapter or so. For me, it was a very uplifting book as each chapter would finish with the achievement of each protagonist after a period of intense challenge and personal loss. From trekking across the Antarctic, to campaigning for rape kits to be tested to give 11k victims justice in one US law enforcement
department alone, to the fight for education and the right to not be abused- this weaves a fascinating, inspiring tapestry of women as fighters and leaders the world over.

Could be triggering for HSP

The book is an amazing work, no doubt about it. But the stories are highly likely to be triggering for Highly Sensitive Persons.

Do it Like a Woman

Important topic. It is a good book and it brings some original and valuable perspectives to light. I do think that there are other books that have been done better, however all work of this sort has merit and is essential reading.

The narration is not good though. The author narrated her own book which might have been fine as she does seem to have a decent enough range in terms of cadence, pitch, tone etc...
Except that she often stumbles over words and makes mistakes here and there. I don't understand why she didn't redo these parts.

Inspirational

Inspirational, empowering and a real eye opener. It tells the stories of great women who could not live without freedom. How their courage and persistence opened the way for other women. For all of us. I loved it.

A voice for women, not for narration

The information was good but the narration was so bad I could only listen to it for short spells at a time.

Harrowing but inspiring

This book made me feel good and hopeful about being female, but also devastated by what some women have to go through just because they are women.
