Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Sparkling characterisation and inventive plots from one of the best-known and beloved detective novelists of all time.

Tragedy befalls the Carter family following an eventful visit from a Russian prince and a scandalous blackmail letter. The murder of Wally Carter generates a bewildering mystery - how does one shoot a man crossing a narrow bridge without being near the murder weapon when it is fired? The superlatively analytical Inspector Hemingway reveals his unnerving talent for solving a fiendish problem.

Fabulous reading of this exvellent story.

How did the reader jump from voice to voice so brilliantly and aptly! Vicky was a gem! The egoist Inspector so confidently portrayed. The explanation if "how" perfectly paced. A smart story brilliantly narrated!

Reliably excellent Ms Heyer.

After listening to romantic works by G. H. several times over, I thought to give a try to her mysteries. No disappointment here. Setting the scene and its participants with their colourful and sometimes hilarious characters took a while before the actual story began. Narrator brilliantly created amazing theatre of different accents and voices. Top marks for the Prince and Vicky!

Fun story and great narration

As a murder mystery this isn’t the greatest story with no real tension but it’s fun and neatly tied up. Heyer’s real skill lies in her characters and this story is full of great characters brought excellently to life by Matt Addis.
If you are a fan of Heyer and looking for a well narrated story (I didn’t spot a single error in the reading) then this is for you. If you are a crime drama fan then it probably isn’t.

Story becomes more interesting after the murder

"Why Shoot A Butler?" is a much more enjoyable story with better characters. Some odd, unrelatable characters in No Wind Of Blame. Narrator is good, though.
