About this listen

No one saw it coming. One day, the rivers flowed. The next, they were poison.

For Hazel Northrup, it’s the day she escapes the only world she’s ever known—a fanatical water-worshipping cult deep in the Oregon wilderness. With her little brother in tow, she flees into a dying world, vowing to keep him safe from both the toxic wasteland and the ruthless men hunting them.

Miles away, a remote research team discovers something far worse than silence: water that kills. Stranded and grieving, scientist Emily, survivalist Bash, and their last remaining colleague make a desperate bid to escape the forest—only to collide with Hazel and Caleb.

Forced into an uneasy alliance, the group must navigate a world unravelling by the hour. Wildfires rage. Disease spreads. And the cult, still hoarding clean water, is rising as a brutal new power.

With supplies dwindling and the last safe haven miles away, survival isn’t guaranteed.

The further they go, the clearer it becomes: this isn’t just a disaster. It’s a collapse.

Although I had read the book the audio version just brought something more to it and I was entranced again and had to keep listening to the end.

This is a story which could happen and the plot is very different to others in this genre I like the mix of escaping from the cult plus the toxic water. The racoon is just so sweet.

Really addictive and new slant on genre

No Safe Water is a fantastic start to the Toxic Tides series. The story is packed with action, great characters, and plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments. It’s the kind of thrilling adventure that would make an excellent film or TV series. Maxwell Zener’s narration is spot on—he brings the tension and drama to life perfectly.
Very highly recommended!

This first book in the series introduces us to 17 year old Hazel and her 8 year old brother escaping a cult centred around purification by water. They encounter scientists who are in the wilderness with a local survival guide distressed by the sudden death of one of them through poisoned water. There is conflict with the cult, campers also trapped by the water disaster and with their own ethics and values. There are survival tips and techniques salted throughout the story. The importance of family loyalty is a central theme. The perils they face are credible and relentless.

The narrator does an excellent job of differentiating the different male and female voices so it is easy to understand who is speaking.

This book was brilliant. I love an end of the world/ apocalypse book. This delivered a great story. Characters were all bought to life by a very good narrator. Would recommend. Now on to the second book.

Brilliant!!

Grace Hamilton has crafted a new story where humanity is struggling to survive! This time it’s as nature is turning against them, even the water has turned into poison! In the mean while a water obsessed cult is rising….

For Hazel, Caleb, Emily, Bash… the stakes are high and their next move will determine if they will survive or die!

Blood-curling, twisting story that put me on the edge of my seat!.
