A great listen
Fascinating subject matter brought to life by a superb narrator. Tempo, diction and sentence rhythm all excellent, and, dare I say it, redolent of an era in which our common language had not yet been infested by the ghastly affectations which are a veritable scourge of modern life.

Another badly cast narrator
Can I ask all audio book publishers to think about who they cast as narrators ..
yet again a good detailed book ruined ( for me ) by a American narrator who “attempts “ to “Do accents” .. but only English accents .. not the French ones , which is odd.. His English regional accents all sound like Mel Gibson in Braveheart or Russell Crowe in Robin Hood … Terrible and distracts from the story which is a pity

Fantastic details in a well read book
Really found this fascinating period of time I thought I knew a bit about WW1 but the details are amazing and really interesting but what a waste of young lives led by stupid people

One of my favourites
1918 is one of my favourite historical years, and GG is my favourite reader, so I can’t recommend this book enough. Excellent blend of detail and human acknowledgment from ministers to tommies.

Excellent narrative
Since reading Mr Toland's book on the Battle of the Bulge, I have enjoyed two books written by him. This work was no exception and once again it has been a source of information that I had not been aware of. His style of writing is very easy to listen to as an audio book and once again I recommend it to history lovers.

Highly recommended
This is a superb explanation of the final year of WW1, detailed (hence the length).
It covers strategic, tactical, political and social issues relating to the western front, events in Bolshevik Russia, as well as first experiences of troops and aviators.

Just too much!
If you want a very detailed account of... well... everything going on on the Western front in 1918, then this is for you. However, I do not care that there were crystal chandeliers in the room where generals met in Amiens and I do not want to know what sort of lunch a general had. For me, this is a waste of time and I'll return this book if I still can.
