Story
What if they hadn't gone? That's the question Clementine can't stop asking herself. It was just a backyard barbeque. They didn't know their hosts that well. They were friends of friends. They could so easily have said no. But she and her husband, Sam, said yes, and now they can never change what they did and didn't do that beautiful winter's day. Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One yapping dog. It's a normal weekend in the suburbs. What could possibly go wrong?

Story
Three sisters, one birthday, one little problem... The three Kettle sisters have had a mortifying mishap. Their raucous, champagne-soaked birthday dinner has come to an abrupt end following a violent argument and an emergency dash to the hospital. So who started it this time? Was it angry, hurt Cat, still recovering from the 'night of the spaghetti'? Was it Lyn, so serenely successful, at least on the outside? Or was it quirky, dreamy Gemma, the sister who can't keep a secret except for the most important one of all?

Pirriwee Public is a beautiful little beachside primary school where children are taught that ‘sharing is caring.’ So how has the annual School Trivia Night ended in full-blown riot? Sirens are wailing. People are screaming. The principal is mortified. And one parent is dead. Was it a murder, a tragic accident or just good parents gone bad? As the parents at Pirriwee Public are about to discover, sometimes it’s the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal.

From the outside, the Delaneys appear to be an enviably contented family. Even after all these years, former tennis coaches Joy and Stan are still winning tournaments, and now that they've sold the family business they have all the time in the world to learn how to 'relax'. Their four adult children are busy living their own lives, and while it could be argued they never quite achieved their destinies, no-one ever says that out loud.

Disappointing
Was really disappointed with this book as have loved every other book the author has written. The story took far too long to get going and just as it started to improve, went completely nonsensical. Generally, the whole thing was far too long. Also the narrator wasn’t great. Very slow and very nasal. Not like her normal style at al.

Not as good as her others
I really like Liane Moriarty, and have loved her other books but this didn’t do it for me. It may have been me, maybe not in the right head space for it, but sadly my overriding feeling when listening to this was wanting it to end! Never a good sign. It was a bit like one of those action movies when you think the whole exhausting ordeal is over, and then the protagonists get off the boat/plane/bus only to get on a hijacked train. Thought it was over several times - at one point realising still five hours to go! Sorry Liane, as I say, maybe just me!

Average story - painfully slowly read
Disappointed with this after loving the husbands secret. Majority of the novel was spent setting up the characters (which I know is liane’s style) and then the climax was a bit too farcical in comparison to the rest of the novel. I also found the reader of this novel painfully slow. I listened to the whole thing at x1.5 speed as it was so slow.

Narration so awful couldn’t finish
The story may we’ll be great but it’s the first time I’ve been so put off by the narration that I couldn’t finish. I couldn’t get past chapter 4. It felt amateurish, forced and as if the budget simply wasn’t big enough for this book which is a shame as I’d like to hear the rest of it. I will read instead. Perhaps more than one cast member would have helped. But this is truly an example of what the wrong casting can do to an audio book.

Utterly brilliant! Liane Moriarty does it again!!!
This is gripping from the start. The 'nine strangers' in the title are all characters I was interested in and entertained by throughout. What I love most about L Moriarty's writing is the way she injects dark human and is so unafraid to confront us as readers with extremes. Her observations of human ridiculousness and how we differently negotiate the world and life is spot on.
Caroline Lee has narrated all Moriarty's books (that I've listened to) and she is the best narrator! I imagine her performance brings these books to life exactly how Moriarty intended. If Lee didn't narrate these books I'd miss her hugely. They are a winning team!

Why is it being read so slowly?
I love these books and have always really enjoyed the narrator - but has she been told to slow down? It’s odd. I’ve been listening at 1.25 speed to get a bit more energy! I’ve only just started so I’m hoping it gets a bit more sparky!

A bit of a let down
Tanya
I have enjoyed some of Liane’s books, this one not so much. I found the end, from where they were locked up, to slow. I got the impression that the writer crammed all the character information into the slow paced scene just to get to a nicely wrapped ending. Martha became an animated toward the end. Really...a candle stick and a dagger?? I don’t mind the odd f* word, but I am NOT a fan of it’s use in easy reading. That goes for the “Jesus” and “Christ” too.....

Let down
I have loved all of Liane Moriarty’s other books. I was really excited about this one but it’s a total shift from her normal gripping storytelling, It dragged on and was hard to follow. The characters weren’t at all relatable and the wild accent of the narrator was distracting. It was an interesting premise and some of the plot lines had value, but overall this book can be skipped.
