Story
At the heart of Mary Higgins Clark's stunning new novel of suspense is a brutal murder: that of Gary Lasch, a respected and successful young Greenwich, Connecticut, doctor and hospital and HMO head. He was found dead at his desk at home, his skull crushed by a blow with a Remington bronze sculpture, a prized piece from his art collection. The news strikes Greenwich society like a thunderbolt - as does the news that Molly Carpenter Lasch, the doctor's young wife, has been arrested for her husband's murder.

Summary
Jean Sheridan, a college dean and prominent historian, sets out to her hometown to attend the 20-year reunion of Stonecroft Academy alumni, where she is to be honored along with six other members of her class. There is something uneasy in the air: one woman in the group about to be feted, Alison Kendall, a beautiful, high-powered Hollywood agent, drowned in her pool during an early-morning swim. Alison is the fifth woman in the class whose life has come to a sudden, mysterious end.
Adding to Jean's sense of unease is a taunting, anonymous fax she received, referring to her daughter -- a child she had given up for adoption 20 years ago.
At the award dinner, Jean is introduced to Sam Deegan, a detective obsessed by the unsolved murder of a young woman who may hold the key to the identity of the Stonecroft killer. Jean does not suspect that among the distinguished people she is greeting is The Owl, a murderer nearing the countdown on his mission of vengeance against the Stonecroft women who had mocked and humiliated him, with Jean as his final victim.

I love and adore Mary Higgins Clark’s books. This one however, gets a touch tedious and repetitive in places. It is still a great book, but I don’t reread it as often as others by her.

I have read many books and mysteries, but this one is outstanding! The audiobook and reader had me so mesmerized that I carried my laptop everywhere I went and for the length of the audiobook I never put it down and even took it to bed with me until the story was over. Mary Higgins Clark is an outstanding writer and I now plan on ordering more audiobooks written by her.

Beware of high school reunions
Beware of high school reunion
This book left me very disappointed. The characters really had no personality and everything about them was presented in a negative light. The villain was interesting, and it had some good moments. But overall I was disappointed by the development of the characters. The whole premise is kind of not plausible and for no one to recognize these women getting killed as a pattern wow that’s crazy. The police are the dumbest people in the world in this book and the fact that a teenage reporter finds out more information by just hard work and being around is amazing. The heroine it’s so dull. All she does is whine and moan and cry incessantly. If I were the Owl, I would kill her first. Sorry to be so critical because I paid a lot of money to listen to the story and it was so disappointing. I think my dog couldn’t figure out the whole thing. Too many characters, the doctors wife just happens to remember the pictures. The teacher who was responsible for the reporter, it was a waste. Last but not least the school sounds like a real pit. Enough already. I’m glad I didn’t go there. Needless to say, the hotel was horrible. I would’ve checked out after the first night. The only bright thing in this story was the words at the end by Mary Higgins Clark. She described why she wrote the book and why some of the characters were put in there and that was excellent. I enjoyed hearing that. But that’s for reading this book no thank you.
