Story
It has many names: Bigfoot...Yeti...Sasquatch. But whatever it is, it’s out there in the woods and leaving a trail of blood and severed heads behind it. For John Moon, a half-mad Indian, it is a spirit that holds the key to his inner self. He worships its power and he’ll kill to protect it. Desperate, exhausted, half-starved, Moon will follow it wherever it goes. For Raymond Jason, killing it has become an obsession. He was the only survivor of a hunting trip to the Rockies where the hunters became the monster’s prey.

It was just an ordinary garbage dump on peaceful Cape Cod. No one ever imagined that conditions were perfect for breeding, that it was a warm womb, fetid, moist, and with food so plentiful that everything creeping, crawling, and slithering could gorge to satiation. Then a change in poison control was made, resulting in an unforeseen mutation. Now the giant mutant cockroaches are ready to leave their nest - in search of human flesh!

Story
Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

The Norfolk coast made for a perfect holiday - as long as the sun still shone. But when the rain came, the creatures left the shadows. Spectres from the past tortured James Hildebrand's mind. His blackest nightmares were crowded with malevolent, coiling images of decay. Then, suddenly, he knew the threat was real. The dead alone could not quench their hunger. And, for the living, the horrors that fed and multiplied in the darkness of the night became more terrible with the dawn.

Another Great Paperbacks From Hell Title
I've really enjoyed the Valencourt Books Paperbacks From Hell series so far. It's great to see some underappreciated horror gems get the opportunity to reach a wider audience.
Nightblood is a fun cross between 'Salem's Lot and First Blood. The book is well written with great characterization. My only issue is some of the chapters go on longer than they really need to. I think if the book had a tighter edit I would have given it full marks.
Once again, Matt Godfrey is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Definitely one of my favourite audiobook narrators.
Highly recommended.

Pulpy, Action-Packed Vampire Fun
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publisher, so I am providing an honest review in return. There is one small spoiler in this review.
Do you enjoy hyper-masculine pulpy action stories in the vein (no pun intended) of Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane stories about a Puritan demon-hunter? Did you read Stephen King's vampire novel 'SALEM'S LOT and feel it would have been better with more machine guns? Do you like stories where the main protagonist is a ruggedly-handsome, battle-scarred Vietnam veteran who falls in love with a good woman but struggles between his desire to settle for the domestic life with said good woman and his inner duty to keep being a badass monster killer, even if doing so means he must leave the woman he loves (so that she can be safe, of course)?
If you answered affirmatively to any of these questions, this book is for you. This book is completely bonkers, silly, and ridiculous with a grand-standing vampire villain who wears a red Adidas track suit (I know, right?) and *SPOILER* who forces our hero to drink his (the villain's) blood from his penis. It's problematic in so many ways, from moments of casual racism to moments of casual homophobia. (Or is it just closeted queerness masked by masculine bravado? I honestly can't decide.) If any of these things turn you off, best to move along and choose something else to read. If you can look past its flaws, however, this book is REALLY fun. It's trash, pure and simple, but is it glorious, sleazy, delicious trash. If Taco Bell were a book, this would be it.
The narration is great. Anyone who is familiar with Matt Godfrey's other work will be treated to the same performance quality that has, in my experience, become Godfrey's standard. He's one of my favorite audiobook narrators, and he's a helluva nice guy to boot. If this book isn't your speed, consider instead listening to the audiobook for Michael McDowell's Southern Gothic saga, BLACKWATER. That was my first exposure to Matt Godfrey's narration, and it is an EXCELLENT book.

Rambo vs King Vampire
Vietnam vet goes against a townfull of vampires. Very entertaining, even when at least one of the deaths (which should have been devastating) gets almost no reaction. More 80's action movie than horror, but lots of fun.

Excellent!
This is an amazing vampire story that won't disappoint you! The main character is a realistic bad ass and not the super perfect stereotypical protagonist that dominate so many other novels. No annoying side characters or eye rolling dumb decisions. The story is simple but so brilliantly executed. The main villain is really interesting and great as well. I can't forget to mention the narrator is awesome and has great vocal range for all of his characters unlike some others. He also has some of the best VA for female characters that sound realistic and is not annoying at all. I hope the author makes this a series because there is tons of potential for more stories with these characters. Just buy it already!

oh what fun!
Nightblood was a fun listen. Originally published in 1990 then re-released in 2019 by Valancourt Books. I would have guessed this book to have came from the 80's. It was good and sometimes so ridiculous and cheesy. I don't think this story adds anything new to the vampire mythology and it's nothing ground breaking. But you will have fun and a few chuckles as you read or listen. Matt Godfrey narrates this one. If you haven't had the pleasure of hearing him read before, oh man! You are in for a treat. He is awesome! I could listen to him read my grocery list!

Very good, no nonsense book. Doesn't try to be too heady. Doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. Gets right into the action and doesn't give you a moment to breath. Just a good, fun, solid popcorn listen.
