Summary
Nicholi’s world goes up in flames when soldiers invade his country, leaving chaos in their wake. Captured and enslaved in a foreign land, Nicholi struggles to cope with the nightmare of slavery and adapt to the terrifying and inexplicable world he is thrust into.
He draws courage from a steadfast determination to get justice for his murdered family and—he hopes—inner peace by finding and killing the man responsible for the destruction of his village. Yet, through it all, Nicholi’s greatest enemy might not be foreign powers, enemy soldiers, or the self-serving machinations of his fellow slaves, but himself.

Great read
I bought this audio as I been listening to all of J A Jaken's books. This story is about Nicki who has been captured and make into a slave. We follow his journey through slavery and his plotting for revenge of the person who killed his family. I was hooked from the beginning with Dan Calley's excellent narration that brought the characters to life. I was happy that Nicki go his happy ending.

Surviving slavery
Again this author made me feel the strong emotion that went into this story. Nicholi watches soldiers invade his country and kill his family. He survives but it taken as a slave for the prince. His life is hardly worth living in his point of view. All that keeps him surviving is wanting revenge on the man who led the invasion and deaths of his family. His path to finding this man again and his actions to get his revenge is a painful path both emotionally and physically. Nicoli faces many thoughts that also change his outlook. The one problem I had is it is mentioned that maybe not all of Nicholis’ family died yet he doesn’t do anything to find out if his sisters are alive. As usual Dan Calley’s performance is exceptional. He always brings characters to life.
