About this listen

“A fun mixture of magic, sensuality, and iconic pin-up girl style. The romance in New Orleans Rush will leave you smiling and filled with optimism.” (Helen Hoang, author of The Kiss Quotient)

Falling for your surly boss is a rotten idea.
Letting him saw you in half is even worse....

Beatrice Baker may be a struggling artist, but she believes all hardships have silver linings...until she follows her boyfriend to New Orleans and finds him with another woman. Instead of turning those lemons into lemonade, she drinks lemon drop martinis and keys the wrong man's car.

Now she works for Huxley Marlow of the Marvelous Marlow Boys, getting shoved in boxes as an on-stage magician's assistant. A cool job for some, but Bea's been coerced into the role to cover her debt. She also maybe fantasizes about her boss' adept hands and what else they can do.

She absolutely will not fall for him, or kiss him senseless. Until she does. The scarred, enigmatic Huxley has unwittingly become her muse, unlocking her artistic dry spell, but his vague nightly activities are highly suspect. The last time Beatrice trusted a man, her bank account got drained and she almost got arrested. Surely this can't end that badly...right?

Beatrice flees from her home when a loan shark demands she pays her father’s debts. She finds herself in New Orleans with her boyfriend who ditches her the moment somebody asks him out. Finding herself alone and homeless without money, she goes to a bar and gets drunk. She winds up keying a car that she thinks is her boyfriend. Turns out it’s a magician named Huxley’s. She goes to work for him to pay off the damages to his car. I enjoyed this book very much. I felt I could relate to the story in many ways. I find that I really enjoy many stories that take place in New Orleans. It’s a magical city to me one day that I hope to visit. But I digress. I do have some minor issues with the story. There were a few things that weren’t really closed properly in my opinion. I can’t divulge too much because I don’t want to spoil the book for any. But I’d of loved to get conclusions on them. The characters were great. They were very easy to connect with. There were some behaviors they had that I couldn’t really get behind, but that’s just because I’m not used to that type of behavior. I also wish the brothers played a bigger part in the story than they did. Actually, I wish quite a few characters had a more prominent role. There was still a great connection with all of them. The narrator did a terrific job. She gave all the characters a wonderful personality that intensified the story. Not that it really needed much of that. It was a great story to begin with, but still. It was wonderful how much flair she added to the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was amazing. The characters were realistic and easy to connect with. The story was easy to move along with. There was something that happened in the background that I would love to see in more light as its own story. Maybe the author has already considered that. We shall see. I fully recommend it.

Ohhh I loved the narration by Holly Fielding. The first time I have listened to her and I loved the way she presented the book. I could easily tell who was who just by listening. And I completely forgot it was just one person narrating.

The story had me from the very beginning. Brilliantly unusual characters and fabulous world building. I loved it! I loved watching the characters and their relationships grow. The twists in the story were great. I was really sad when it ended. I could quite happily have carried on listening to more!

Unusual and throroughly enjoyable characters

this story took a bit to get into. It.started out slow and almost didn't keep my interest. However I kept on. This story is about a magician and a girl. Two very unlikely characters who meet up in a bar. she is homeless due to Bf breakup. He is a scared magician. she helps him through his troubles.
the narrator was good. Great voice and sound

This was book was funny and light, really easy to listen to. I  liked my the way they meet and how she ends up being his assistant which help her  to overcome her fear. Huxley brothers are really cool, both of them and I hope they get a book of their own. After finishing the book, I really want to have some beignets . . .
The narration of Holly Fielding was so good, It's my first time listening to her narration and she did a pretty good job with it, I will definitely be listening more of her narrations.

Magical
