About this listen

When her husband leaves her on her 40th birthday, Kat Finnerty’s world is shattered. But then something remarkable happens. She overcomes his betrayal in 12 hours. It’s almost as if her absurd, disaster-prone life has been arming her with the superpowers to master her disaster. So begins Kat’s astonishing and inspiring true story.

Spanning the globe from her hometown of Toronto to the Island of the Gods in Indonesia, the mountains of Switzerland and Italy, the heartland of Czechoslovakia and the rugged outback of Australia, Kat sets out on a high-stakes adventure to squeeze more meaning and purpose from her life. It's a roller coaster ride of epic proportions which comes crashing down when she's diagnosed with a crippling disease. She contemplates the unthinkable.

However, fate intervenes in the form of three eccentric spiritual guides: a tattooed Maori Buddhist teacher, an unorthodox Canadian yoga guru and a Zen motorbike-riding spiritual renegade.

And this changes everything.

She flips her mindset, casts off her mantle of victimhood, and transforms herself into a master of disaster. And with her newfound mental conviction and courage, she ultimately triumphs over tragedy by finding a cure for her “incurable” disease. Infused with humour and profound wisdom, this powerful true story will completely change your attitude around adversity and ensure you never let a GOOD disaster go to waste again.

I absolutely loved the book from start to finish! As someone with MS also, I could really resonate with what the author felt through those terrifying times of not knowing what MS may bring. I really loved how she refused to be stuck in the moment, which is so important with MS for overcoming the challenges and moving forward. I loved the book also for its story, Kat Finnerty's life - I don't know the woman but I felt so invested in learning about her family and life I recommend this to people not only those who aren't diagnosed with a chronic illness, or who are newly diagnosed, but also those who've had their diagnosis a while, and may be struggling. Keep positive 😊❤️
