Sometimes your past catches up with you. But John Milton has decided to catch up with his past.

Eighteen years ago, on a mission in Iraq, Captain John Milton made a reckless decision with serious consequences. But it was Major Connor Gordon who really paid the price.

Now Milton is on a different mission: to atone for his past sins by helping those in need. A human rights activist has vanished without a trace and his dying mother is desperate to know the truth. When the mysterious disappearance leads Milton all the way to the Western Isles of Scotland, he sees an opportunity to find his old friend Connor and finally make amends. Milton is determined to track both men down, wherever his search may lead.

From Okinawa to the Outer Hebrides, Milton is about to take a journey into a cutthroat world of bribery and corruption where his strength and resolve will be tested to its limits. He may no longer be the man he was in Iraq. But can he keep his cool when it really counts?

How many authors are there where their stories and writing become exceptional after 18 novels? Lee Child has become repetitive. Michael Connelly has Bosch in struggling in retirement. I have very low expectations for authors who have taken taken their original character and spun the stories into 20 or so novels. But Dawson is the stand out exception. I had no reason to enjoy this book anymore than any other - but was I wrong. Not only is this pure wonderful escapism of the thrilling kind - but to have a novel set in the Western Isles is my idea of wonderful. It's an easy and enjoyable read - and I mean that as a compliment - and I must mention the outstanding work of David Thorpe narrating. He is a joy to listen to and his accents seemed spot on to me. I loved this book - and I'm listening to Bullet Proof (number 20) from tomorrow. Tomorrow is Christmas Day and I choose my Christmas Day entertainments very carefully. I confident Mr Dawson will again pull it out the bag. Thanks again Mark Dawson for a rollercoaster series of books.

Absolutely love this series, the narration by David Thorpe is again flawless!

Eric (aka John Milton) lives each day to right his past wrongs. In the search of a missing man he makes peace with an old friend, gains new allies and fights for the justice of several migrant workers believed to be dead and buried on an island in the hebrides.

As his investigation comes to an unexpected close he finds himself captured by the very group he has been hiding from, what next for Milton?
