Story
Year 2522. Lyra Daniels is dead. Okay, so I only died for 66 seconds. But when I came back to life, I got a brand new name and a snazzy new uniform. Go, me! Seriously, though, it's very important that Lyra Daniels stays dead, at least as far as the murdering looters know. While dying is the scariest thing that's happened to me, it morphed my worming skills. I can manipulate the Q-net like never before. But the looters have blocked us from communicating with the rest of the galaxy, and now they believe we've gone silent, like Planet Xinji (where silent really means dead).

Summary
“The answer is no, Lyra”, my mother utters her favorite - I swear - phrase.
No means I have to travel with them to another planet - again.
No means leaving all my friends 50 years in the past. Thanks, Einstein.
Seventeen-year-old Lyra Daniels can’t truly blame Einstein or her parents for their impending move across the Milky Way Galaxy. It’s all due to the invention of the Q-net, which made traveling the vast distances in space possible - with one big caveat: the time dilation. But that never stopped Lyra's ancestors from exploring the Milky Way, searching for resources and exoplanets to colonize. What they didn’t expect to find is life-sized terracotta warriors buried on 21 different exoplanets...Make that 22.
As the Galaxy’s leading experts on the warriors, Lyra's parents are thrilled by the new discovery, sending them - and her - 50 years into the future. Her social life in ruins, she fills her lonely days by illegally worming into the Q-net. The only person close to her age is the annoyingly irresistible security officer who threatens to throw her into the brig.
After the planet they just left goes silent - meaning no communications from them at all - security has bigger problems to deal with than Lyra, especially when vital data files go missing. But that's just the beginning, because they’re not as alone as they thought on their new planet...and suddenly time isn't the only thing working against them.

Awesome book and storyteller
I have been a fan of Maria V Snyder for a long time and this series certainly doesn't disappoint! And I was apprehensive about the audiobook (I actually won it in a competition) as I have never really listened to audiobooks before but Gabra Zackman was excellent and really did make the characters come alive! As soon as I finished the first one in the series I immediately went to buy the other two in the series as I couldn't not listen to them!

Promising
It took me a few chapters to get used to the style of this book. The reader is a part of the main characters internal monologue, and once I got used to this I started to enjoy the clever, witty, sarcastic main character and her story.
The narrator is very good and is clear, the only thing I struggled with was the different voices for each character. Although well done they were a bit distracting.
Overall a good book/listen and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Fantastic book!
I picked up this book solely on the strength of a review written by a Goodreads friend, well that, and the blurb was very enticing... and I loved it! There's so many good things about this story that I don't even know where to begin!
The first thing that caught me up was the beginning and the perfect funeral, yes I did say perfect funeral! Well, that and the main character's (Lyra Daniels') sassiness! I just loved her from the very start...
While aboard the Star Ship, I found something else that added to my pleasure, the Captain, her crew, and that great big star viewing window! It all had a Nathan Lowell kinda vibe, and Nathan is easily one of my top 5 author's of recent years. Plus all the while, Lyra, in the interest of not being bored out of her gourd, kept everyone on their toes. The crew was even taking bets on whether or not she'd end up in detention (ship-speak for the non-adult brig)... Lyra has this great relationship with her parents, and they even knew when they had blown it, and apologized to her in order to make things right... Lyra is indomitable, and she won't be ignored, or constrained... Plus there's something vital that only she can do (ya' gotta get the book to find out what 😁)!
Gabra Zackman was the perfect choice to narrate Lyra's story, even if a character or two sounded a bit like Admiral Ackbar (think Star Wars...). Lol
So if you like space flight, that's maybe even a little reminiscent of Nathan Lowell's style, along with coming-of-age stories, sprinkled with ruthless, grave robbers, deadly aliens, and a centuries old ancient puzzle, you'll want to grab the book. Oh, and you're welcome... In advance!

Great Book! Great Audio!
I'd never read Ms. Snyder before and am delighted with this book. YA lit for me is either a huge yes or big no and this is a huge YES! This isn't really about time travel, yet time in space and space, is one big factor in the story. I listened to this and the narration is flawless. Highly recommend listwning. My only negative reaction was in thinking the security head was overreacting to the low level hacking but I'm assured that security folk always overreact to hacking. I just thought in the future maybe not so much? Other than that, delightful read or listen, do treat yourself.

Fun and engaging read
I decided to give this book a try simply because I’ve loved Marie V. Snyder’s other novels so much, Both Poison Study and Touch of Power were super fun reads, and if you haven’t read them then you should check them out. Navigating the Stars was a totally different vibe, but still really exciting and engaging. The main character has a lot of spunk and is really like-able. This book could appeal to a lot of different people, with pieces of mystery, fantasy, and romance. It’s definitely YA, but as a 30 year old I still enjoyed it and it didn’t feel cheesy.

ANOTHER WIN FOR MVS
Gabra Zackman is one of the BEST narrators I’ve ever heard. I generally use audiobooks to fall asleep at night, and I always pick readings of stories that I love. Zackman does a PHENOMENAL job of bringing the characters to life! I’ve been listening to her readings for years and I adore her!
She truly does bring the characters to life.
As for the story, it starts out slow. MVS builds her stories so that you care about not only the main characters, but the minor characters as well. She does an amazing job of dragging the reader in and making you love the characters. And then that climax?!? You. Will. Be. Hooked. And waiting forbook two,

Came for the Narrator, Stayed for the Story
I love audiobooks... but I admit my low attention span makes it hard to stay focused on books read by certain narrators. Nothing wrong with what they do, I just find myself daydreaming and have to rewind the last few minutes, regardless of what is being reading. It’s takes a special kind of narrator to keep me engaged.
I sought out Gabra Zackman based on a recommendation by the podcast My Favorite Murder, who highly regarded her work on “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark.” The hosts were right, her voice is quite soothing. She achieves great range without resorting to over-the-top theatrics, a subtlety that made me listen intently. (This was especially effective when quoting the few one-liners spoken by the Golden State Killer, each sending chills down my spine.)
It is because of her that I came across this book. I’m not usually a fan of fantasy, but I got hooked on this one just from the sample offered by Audible. She really made Lyra come to life, almost as if she were standing next to me, sharing her incredible adventures. I was also surprised by how different she sounded with each character, to the point I wondered if other actors were involved. Sufficed to say I am now looking forward to the next one in this series.
As for the book itself: Navigating the Stars tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who is having a hard time adjusting to the
