Summary

Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional abuse that is characteristic of men and women with a personality disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, and they have a worldview that is characterized by vanity and egotism.

Although narcissists are remarkable for their lack of empathy, they have enough awareness of the subjective emotional states of others to use this to engage in psychological manipulation and mind control. Due to the narcissistic partner’s “false self,” the charismatic mask he or she projects to society, the victim often feels isolated in this type of abuse and is unlikely to have his or her experiences validated by friends, family and society.

Narcissism is an overwhelming and confusing topic. But when you reveal its mask, you see that it is basically a lie, told to those who are vulnerable.

The main goals of this book are:

  • To reveal the obstacles which keep you trapped in a cycle of narcissistic abuse
  • To give the tools for healing, recovery and freedom

To help you on your healing journey, will be covered the following topics:

  • The origin of narcissistic personality disorder
  • Characteristics of narcissistic abuse syndrome
  • The secret languages of the narcissists
  • How abusers manipulate their victims
  • The emotional manipulation signs and techniques
  • The narcissistic abuse cycle
  • Who are the favorite victims of narcissists
  • Signs you're the victim of a narcissist
  • Five tips for neutralizing the impacts of narcissistic abuse
  • How to break the bond of addiction with the abuser
  • How to raise your self-esteem
  • The healing procedure

Narcissistic Abuse will provide you an overview of everything you are going through and what you need to do to fight a narcissist. Even if you’ve never been able to defend yourself from the manipulative behavior of a narcissist, this book will be teaching the techniques you need to be free.

I've begun listening this book, and it has approve

I've begun listening this book, and it has approved all my disarray and blended emotions about leaving my ex. I didn't have a clue when we were together that he was sincerely damaging. I just realized I was consistently the person who wasn't right. As a result of this book, I'm figuring out how to support myself, to liberate myself from those chains of commitment to individuals who simply keep on utilizing me and cause me to feel awful about myself.

This book is helping me see the behaviors

This book is helping me see the behaviors and patterns so that I can keep from being abused by others in the future, which is also very important. What good is healing, if you keep getting wounded?

Recommended.

I'm not finished listening it yet, but it's already made a huge impact on me. I believe it will help me heal and give myself closure, because I know I'll never get it from the people who've abused me.

This is a powerful book.

This is a powerful book. I especially like that the author doesn't tell you "how to feel", as she helps survivors of psychological abuse work through their healing by giving advice and offering journal exercises.

This book has validated the pain

This book has validated the pain and lack of understanding that I have faced. This book contains so many healing and enlightening points too many for me to even list here. The author also took me on a journey through the six stages of recovery from hidden abuse.

This is by far one of the best books

This is by far one of the best books that I have listen on the topic of psychological abuse. This book happened to land in my hands at a crucial time. I am in a psychologically abusive marriage where I am now going through a divorce. I needed something that could help me through this journey most of all I needed someone to tell me what I had walked through was not my fault or that I was crazy.

Happy with this purchase.

When I discovered the book, I was looking more for one from the perspective of a mother/daughter relationship but not a spouse. I had read others from that perspective and avoided some that were specifically referring to romantic relationships. Because this book wasn't specifically about the parent narcissist, I wasn't sure I'd buy it. The introduction had me hooked! She even stated what I had already told my husband--no two books have the same information, and you have to just learn what you can from each.

This book is outstanding

This book is outstanding for all the reasons cited by many other reviewers - it's very thorough, it explains things that are not commonly known, it helps people identify the abuse they may have endured without realizing it was abuse.

An incredibly insightful book - I was enthralled!

An incredibly insightful book - I was enthralled! This could have only been written by someone who truly understands this damaged mind set, the subtle nuances and clever traps these creatures are able to set for their prey. The confusion, spin, despair and doubt they’re able to instill.

This was exactly what I needed

The biggest takeaway for me was listening that psychological abusers set out to trick people, know exactly what they do, and it is a choice to be an abuser. As the author states, they actually know better than anyone the lies they tell, the games they play, and the enjoyment they derive from controlling others. This was exactly what I needed to hear and believe, and it has been key to my healing.

This book confirmed my suspicions all along.

Don't know about the therapy bit, but the rest absolutely spot on, know from personal experiences of knowing one - thankfully unrelated and got away in time. This book confirmed my suspicions all along.

Very enlightening.

This book informs you how to be aware of these personality types and how to deal with them if you are not able to avoid them, such as at work. I found it a real eye opener, and it has helped me be so much more aware when dealing with people. All in all, very enlightening.

Great guide.

I thought this was a great book. We have all encountered emotionally abusive people in our lives and this will give you an insight into what makes them tick. I think we sometimes wrongly think that kindness and understanding will bring round the nastiest of people. But this book enlightened me to the fact that narcissistic/ sociopath type personalities cannot be changed.

Good luck.

Shannon has practical experience, and gives straightforward practical advice. She has to explain concepts but doesn't use words that are two feet long. Don't expect to have a phd in psychology at the end of listening it but if you've been psychological abused it just might be the key to your recovery. Good luck.
