Summary

The NIV Audio Bible read by David Suchet has been arranged into daily readings to help you listen to the complete Bible in one year. In this digital download version, there is a portion from the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Psalms or Proverbs each day - each on a separate track, to make it easy to navigate.

Ever since he became a Christian at the age of 40, it was Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the whole Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor. It is now available in the popular Bible in One Year format, both on MP3 CD and as a digital download..

Excellent version.

If you are going to tackle something as daunting as the Bible then listening to David Suchet's soothing tones will definitely help. I'm not a good reader and have struggled through several failed attempts at taking on the Bible. I've had audio versions before but often with overacted American voices which have been distracting. This version is simple but beautiful.
Each day is split into three parts which makes breaks it up into manageable portions and listening in this way really helps to get an overview of all the stories and how they work together, rather than just focusing on tiny sections at a time in isolation as we often do.
My only bugbear is that whilst it states that chapter markers/info will be downloaded to your library, they aren't. So revisiting a section will require guesswork. This is basic and should really have been dealt with. However, this is probably one of the best and most important audiobooks you could own.

Amazing performance, no navigation

An outstanding, engaging performance, making compelling listening.

Let down by the lack of any index, so it's guess work to try to find a specific section. It can't be that hard to provide a PDF that lists the tracks?

No titles to files

Better than most audible bibles as it comes in 12, roughly one month each, files, but they are all labelled the same so you can't identify one from another.

Very disappointed that they can't get this right with any audio bible, functionality and navigation are essential.

David Suchet brilliant!

David Suchet is a pleasure to listen to. He has a very nice voice and is such a good actor he draws you into the action of the best real-life story ever.
I'm still trying to work out how to find today's date. So if there is a criticism, that's it.

Lovely to listen to and would have given 5 stars but....

It would have been better if the chapters were entitled with the part of the bible the text is read from. To be able to choose a passage would be great. I now discovered there is another audio that does this but would mean I'd have to spend another 40pounds on top of what I've spent on this. Had I known this audio did not have the chapters titled with the part of bible its read from I wouldn't have got it. But now I'm stuck with it and not willing to spend another 40pounds at the moment. Disappointed!

Excellent Narration

This is a brilliant resource, brilliantly executed. David Suchet paces the readings and intonation in a way that is very helpful. That he reads from a position of faith is also apparent or at least it seems so to me.

Very frustrating to use

There doesn't appear to be a way of navigating this by book/chapter/verse it's divided into 100's of generically named chapters. What a waste of money :(

Excellent

I'm nearing the end of my year which started on 1 Nov 2017 and am finding David Suchet's Audible narrative combined with the Kindle text version of the NIV an excellent way of achieving a personal target to read the whole of the bible. Unlike some reviewers I don't find it in the least frustrating to navigate, perhaps because I've been at it for ten months now. I cannot imagine how I might have achieved this ambition any other way as I am sure trying to read straight through the bible from Genesis Chapter 1 verse 1 to the end of Revelations would have been a non-starter for me. It is easy to catch up if one falls behind, by listening/reading to two or three days' worth of readings at a stretch. What would be good is to have access to an Excel/Word/pdf file listing the readings for each day in the year. to enable any particular Audible reading to be accessed without too much searching. As each day comprises three sections: a reading from Psalms/Proverbs, a new testament reading, and an old testament reading one is certainly jumping around a bit. This is definitely an advantage as far as the reading is concerned but makes finding specific Audible sections virtually impossible. Perhaps it is this aspect which other listeners have found frustrating.

Finding your reading for the day

There are three chapters per day. To find your days's reading, multiply the day of the year by three. Example: some diaries will tell you that 9 December is day 342 of the year. Otherwise, Google it. Multiply 342 by 3. That is 1026. So, Chapter 1026 will give you one of the 3 readings for the day, give or take.
