Excellent book, great narration
Not just a straight fantasy, certainly, one built from pieces of many British myths and legends, and with an incorporation of British history too, all told in a way that uses themes and atmospheres from horror as well as fantasy. Beautiful writing. Come on Audible, more Holdstock please.

A Classic from the 80's
This was enjoyable, mainly because Rupert Degas elevates anything he narrates. One can sense that the themes and arcs in this story have been bettered and more refined by more recent authors in other similar styled novels. That said it is still enjoyable and at 10 hours long it trucks along at a nice pace.

The Comparative History of Yogi Bear
Acclaimed mythopoetic fantasy novel that reads as if Alan Garner had written a blend of Mircea Eliade and Solaris. The first half of the novel in particular draws from older folk traditions, and is possessed of an eerie weirdness most evocative of Garner (as opposed to, say, the satisfyingly pretty and very modern qualities of kindred spirit, Neil Gaiman). The book resolves into a more straight-ahead hero-quest that left me slightly disappointed. Still, it is the journey not the destination that matters here. Plus, Rupert Degas' narration is beautifully judged, making this very easy on the ear.

Ok, but a little underwhelmed.
It was a very slow start but picked up later on. fantastic concepts but I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed.

Rupert degas .. could read me a phonebook
Anything Rupert narrates becomes ethereal and atmospheric. I love listening to him and this does not disappoint. Listen to the narration carefully and the twists and turns. It is not a thriller but more subtle and Degas is in charge the whole time. Loved it.

Love Degas, Like the book
Let me just say from the off set that I did enjoy this book and you should definitely give it a go.
However, I couldn't help but feel if it wasn't for Degas would I have enjoyed as much?
Rupert Degas is one of the best and i always enjoy listening to him, even though I had to keep reminding myself I'm not at the university with Kvothe, or at the inn with 'Reshi.'
Mythago Wood had loads of potential. So many cool ideas but as a whole it never really hit the mark. The first three quarters of the book i was in to it. Then something happened and I found myself losing interest. The story seemed to of lost its way, along with my attention and felt as if it never really went anywhere. slightly disappointing, but I still enjoyed it over all.

Enjoyable
Enjoyable story. Loved the narration. Had a bit of trouble with odd names as I had trouble telling which character they were talking about sometimes.

Brilliant story, expertly read.
Such a mysterious and beautifully told story, matched only by the skill and inventiveness of the reader. PLEASE audible commission the same team to do the sequel.

I loved the book when I first read it many years ago. A new kind of fantasy with echoes of much older formd
This audio book does it full justice. Read it and recommend it. Would be good to have more from the series.
