"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Story
Between her cheating husband and her on-air meltdown, Marzie Nowak is going through a bit of a bad spell and a heck of a midlife crisis. Her kids have flown the coop to college, and her husband has opted to trade her in for a younger model. With nowhere else to turn, the ex-big-city journalist crawls back to her superstitious hometown of Widow's Bay just in time for their annual pagan festival. Her new, much less glamorous gig has her reporting for a local news website.
Summary
A new beginning in an old town. A punk ghost raging in the middle of the night. She wanted to get away from the paranormal - but did she wake it up instead?
Fortuna Delphi's plans to open an art studio while searching out her mysterious origins are derailed when she discovers a punk ghost raging against her in the middle of the night. As his bones are unearthed along with the town's secrets, she is determined to find out who killed the mohawked teen and why. At least, if she can do it without tipping her hand to the townspeople that she's a witch.
Between the hot detective who suspects she's a con woman up to no good, the smolderingly sexy manager of the local greyhound track that seems to be full of secrets, and a conspiracy theorist reporter determined to enlist Fortuna in her war against the town's corruption, Fortuna's life is becoming more complicated than an Escher painting. And she could be unknowingly related to any of them.
Will Fortuna be able to find out who murdered the ghost in her attic, or will Mystic's End unearth her secrets instead?
Mystic Guests (Mystic's End Mysteries, book one) is a funny, full-length paranormal cozy mystery.

Witty, clever and interesting
This book is all that. I have avidly been looking for the right series in this genre for over a year now. For me the "just right" series would include a mature heroine, as in not a teenager, that is neither too silly or too serious. And an author that has pretty unbiased outlook on the world and it's inhabitants, writing without preaching and teachings. Add humor, wit, a love interest and a good idea or two, and I am in heaven. Witty and clever dialogue, amazing world building and a really interesting storyline of course would be a big bonus.
I had kind of given up. The closest I got were really funny harem series, till now. Thank you Leanne Leeds. Please get more books on audio. Already purchased the rest of the series and really would appreciate more.

it was ok, for a while.
for this book I have both the audiobook and the kindle version. it was ok, and I was entertained until, Pepper was introduced. talk about infuriating characters! I liked the kindle version of this book better. I didn't like the narration a lot. She did try to give the book life, but her characters' voices felt flat.
Back to Pepper. I can't stand characters with no boundaries or regards for other people's privacy. she is a bully and also selfish. I don't understand why anyone will want her in their lives. she is the reason I'm not going to continue with the series. She doesn't even get introduced until the last third of the book. I have a high tolerance for unreasonable characters, but I hate her so much.

A great, light, cute book
The writing is for the material, and the story is super engaging. The voice actor does a great job of giving each of the characters their own voice, and bringing the story to life.
