Summary

Short-listed for the Specsavers National Book Awards 2018 in Autobiography/Biography

The number one Sunday Times best seller.

So, this is me. Lily Allen.

I am a woman.

I am a mother.

I was a wife.

I drink.

I have taken drugs.

I have loved and been let down.

I am a success and a failure.

I am a songwriter.

I am a singer.

I am all these things and more.

When women share their stories, loudly and clearly and honestly, things begin to change - for the better.

This is my story.

refreshingly honest !<br />

It doesn't matter what you think you know about lily Allan this book portray's a story full of heartbreak and anguish. She opens her heart about issues that should never needed to be acknowledged or justified, showing a srength of character and acceptance of uncontrollable human traits that are in us all. she is obviously still trying to find a path to somewhere in her life.
The feisty and outspoken side that we have come to know and love in Lily, is promient in the way she reads this but it definately the mask covering a vulnerable human with an awful story of self betrayal and abuse.

My Thoughts Exactly

I’m not a huge Lily Allen fan, I like a couple of her songs. I purchased this book as I thought I’d see what I could learn about her life as I’d only seen her behaviour as viewed via social media and the press and it looked interesting, I like autobiographies.

The first few chapters are sincere enough, brutally honest even, sounds like she experienced a rather bleak and awful childhood, which nobody would wish on anyone else. Obviously neglected to quite a degree by her parents as a youngster, which has then impacted on her adult life immensely.

The story of her stalker Alex Grey was terrifying, one naturally can empathise with her, and the trauma she experienced during this time must have been appalling.

The story was read well by the author, the writing itself was good, but I was left not with a feeling of what a remarkable and powerful woman and role model Ms. Allen is, but rather with the view that she is in fact the rather self-absorbed person I’d read about.

There was little to no joy or real fun mentioned in the book, I found this sad.

Certainly the author is intelligent, considered and has an interesting back story, but the entire book focuses almost entirely on the author as “the victim”.

I won’t recommend or not recommend purchasing this. I’ve read worse and I’ve read much better.

Wanting more!

My sister sent Lily's audio book to me. I've never finished a book in 2 days before as life gets in the way. I even purchased Bluetooth headphones to listen on my train commute. Loved it, so very sad at times. Write more book please LRA xx

Beautifully brave honesty

At many points this memoir feels like a guttural howl for justice from a culture that has taken so much from this woman. It’s funny, clever and enjoyable.

Good book however Lily's narrating wasn't good

I liked this book but Lily sounds like she's been asked to stand up in class and reluctantly read. You can sometimes hear her sighing as she starts a new paragraph. Her tone is so flat. I even had to slow down the speed as she speaks so fast, it's like she couldn't wait to finish recording the audio. Although Lily has been through some tough times, I found her view on most things all to be quite negative.

I stopped listening because it's depressing

I feel sorry for her and she's lived through a lot. But it's extremely depressing and her tone is depressing. If you're a fan guess it's interesting but skip if you want an interesting uplifting story.

Deeply Emotional

I was really surprised at the complex and emotional life story Lily tells. The voulnerability in her words and voice and the story of her perseverance and hardships really resonated with me. I highly recommend this book to anyone in a transition or who is having issues they want to work through. Learning from Lily's account of events, in my opinion could really help an individual.

Only the best from the best

I’ve been a fan of Lily’s for a while now, I’d recommend all 4 of her albums if you’re wanting to get into her! This book made me laugh, cry, want to scream all in just 30 chapters. Best 6 hours and some odd minutes ever spent in intervals!! Lily if you see this I love you queen!!!

Lily in her own very self aware words

I have always been a fan of Lily. I had no idea of the difficulties in her early life and her spiral out of control after she became a star. I so appreciate that she in no way blames circumstances for what happened. It just is. This happened....this is what her response was. She is very self aware of how her actions impacted her life and career, children's lives and husband.
I appreciate so much that she reads this herself. Books are always better when read by the author.

Love her, so real and honest it’s scary

Unless you are a pop star I guess you never know what truly happens. All we get is the media telling us what they think or see from an action or a picture. This is a memoir, deep into the mind of someone the media has deemed superficial and dumb. She is mind blowing my honest, she owns her mistakes and lets you into the deep dark secret areas most people don’t ever let people in. I loved the book and will definitely look at lily Allen differently but not negatively, just stronger ❤️❤️ hearing from Allen herself just makes it more real.
