Summary
The brand-new novel from the Sunday Times best-selling author of The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew - a gorgeous listen full of warmth and heartfelt emotion.
Laurie and Pete should never have met. But fate has pushed them together for a reason.
Six months ago, on the same night, Laurie and Pete both lost their partners. Struggling to manage the grief, they join the same counselling group - and meet each other.
From their sadness, Pete and Laurie find happiness growing, and they sense a fresh new beginning.
Except, the more they talk, the more Laurie begins to spot the strange parallels in their stories. Then Pete discovers a truth that changes everything.
But, as surely as a compass points north, some people cannot be kept apart.
My One True North is a story of friendship and what love means, of secrets uncovered, tea-shops on corners and the northern lights.

Too sad for too long. Almost sadistic.
Not what I was expecting at all. Very little humour or joy. I don’t understand a story dragging out misery like this. This book just waits till the last 1 min of the book for happiness apart for a glimpse of a feel good in the middle. It paints lying cheating marriage and engagement wreckers as angels looking down on their victim spouses. There’s no let up - best friends keeping devastating secrets, cruel and selfish in-laws discussed in endearing tones. I kept listening hoping for some joy somewhere, but instead the writer just introduces more inconsequential characters building up to a predictable end that sign posted but kept dangling like a sadistic jailer holding a cup of water from a thirsty inmate just out of reach. It also had other miseries, couples hoping for kids who were sterile - a widower entangled with a really horrible partner.
The final resolution comes in a too little too late package - not worth waiting 62 chapters for. .
I am heart broken all over again cos I am a widow and there were secrets. Sadistic book. So disappointed cos I have so many books by this author that I like. Miserable.

soothing like hot chocolate
I'm not sure what it is with Milly Johnson... the story is rather predictable and very sweet, but it never becomes too sweet, and whatever she writes, it is always delectable and just that something you need after a stressful day.

Like a warm hug
Milly Johnson is on top of her game with her latest book. It has been so worth the wait. As well as her fabulous story she has reconnected us with past favourite characters , which if you haven’t read any of her previous books, stand alone in their characterisation.
I am just disappointed that I will have a long wait until her next book

Wonderful
I have enjoyed all of Milly’s books that I have so far read, but this one is particularly scrumptious.
I often use this type of book as rewards to myself after listening to other far more serious books. As here I always know what I ‘m getting and that I am going to be left with all sorts of wonderful feelings afterwards.
Brilliant narration as usual

Enjoyably predictable
Twists and turns punctuated with witty snippets from a local paper. The Daily Trumpet, synonymous of local papers made me chuckle and I’m sure once I heard the reader mistakenly refer to it as the “Chronicle!” ... the writer’s experience of her local rag seeping through!
As usual, great characterisation and pure indulgence for the reader.

Great Story full of lovely new (and old) characters!
I had coincidentally re-listened to the Tea Shop on the Corner before ‘reading’ this title, and was delighted to see Molly and Mr Sing joining the cast of this novel!
I love how the author knits the lives of our favourites characters into different novels, it feels like a little hidden Easter Eggs for her loyal fans to discover.
Delighted to also find Venn, Frankie and Olive from ‘Here Come the Girls’ making an appearance at the end. Might have to re-listen to that too!
This book whilst a little predictable at times, is no less enjoyable for that. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. My favourites author for some time now.

Didn’t disappoint.
As always Millie Johnson came up trumps. An excellent book with twists and turns to bring mystery, sadness and joy. Millie Johnson never disappoints. Really enjoyed this.
