About this listen

It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, but it’s turned into a nightmare — my son is missing.

My son Cam is going to be a baseball star. He’s only thirteen but this trip is a huge opportunity for him. There are scouts from all the major baseball teams at this tournament. He is the one to watch.

The night before the tournament starts, Cam’s bed is found empty.

Everyone is a suspect.

People are always jealous of him — other kids, other parents. Even his own father.

Anyone could have taken him.

The police start digging into every corner of our lives. They want to know everything about us. Everything about our relationship. Every secret we’ve kept from each other.

They’re going to find out what I did.

The narrators managed to convey characters very well - however not in a good way. Intensely nauseating, irritating and melodramatic.
The only reason I kept going was to see what happened to the boy.
It really wasn't worth it.
What a lot of nonsense

Thank goodness it was free

A pretty good story, with some decent twists and tension. But, oh, those corny similes really began to grate. Or maybe I should say the began to grate like gravel on a child’s knee. You get the idea.

Décent story. Annoying writing

Plot is over the top and little nonsensical at points but I’m sure the author knows that. Characters are all pretty one dimensional. That said, it moves fairly quickly and the pacing is good, until the end where it gets funny lol

Some of the performances are off (especially the guy) and they do a stupid voice for the detective and a couple of other characters but it’s fun enough to listen to, and a lot of issues can be ignored if you’ve got the speed up.

It definitely isn’t boring and it’s a good binge if you feel like turning your brain off! I don’t think it pretends to be anything more than some dumb fun so sure, I’d recommend it :)

Good for a bit of dumb fun

I’ve done the unthinkable and given up on a book just an hour in. The lead female narrator speaks so slowly I had to amend the speed to make her sound more normal. The male narrator sounds like he needs to clear his throat and does the worst voices for other people in the book. Genuinely can’t get over just how bad they are. The first audible I’ve not finished in five years of listening.

Had to give up

I liked trying to work out the plot as the story went on. Enjoyed the twist at the end.

the suspense.
