Summary

From the time she was a girl, Jane Goodall dreamed of a life spent working with animals. Finally she had her wish. When she was 26 years old, she ventured into the forests of Africa to observe chimpanzees in the wild. On her expeditions she braved the dangers with leopards and lions in the African bush. And she got to know an amazing group of wild chimpanzees - intelligent animals whose lives, in work and play and family relationships, bear a surprising resemblance to our own.

Love Jane, message & superbly crafted soundscapes!

One of the best Audio Books I have ever heard! I just loved being immersed in Jane's beautiful narration, accompanied by the amazing soundscapes-especially all of the authentic nature and animal sounds and the deep and meaningful message of this book. I will listen to it again and again. And, it will be at the top of my gifting list for friends and family for this giving season and beyond. It reminds me of an old fashioned radio show, its like being right there with Jane hearing and experiencing everything she is describing. I feel that the message of hope and Jane's exquisite role modeling and inspiration are so important for our world at this time.

A 9 year olds point of view

In all, this book has taught me that I can be curious brave and daring. I like that Jane Goodall told us her story in her own words.

Great Story, too many sound effects

I enjoyed listening to Jane Goodall tell the story of her life and all of her adventures. My one criticism is that there are too many sound effects throughout, and sometimes they are just too loud, especially when one is wearing an earbud!

She has THE best audiobooks

Jane Goodall voice is so soothing and her stories are so inspiring. This book is a perfect short story to understand where she comes from and why she is so passionate about peace and coexistence with animals.

Wanted more on chimpanzees

I would say this book is more of call to action to protect the environment than a book just about Jane Goodall’s research. The book rambled a bit, and she could have used a better editor. Her performance was fine. The sound effects in the book were annoying and distracting.

A must listen!

If I could live my life over I’d go to Africa and live amongst the animals as Jane has. The book was very well done and I enjoyed the sound effects. Normally I find them unnecessary and distracting, but they work nicely here.

beautiful

It's a beautiful short story of her life and philosophy. The accompanying audio tract was nicely paired with the story and served to enhance her details.

Jane Goodall has always been an idol!

This book was narrated by Jane Goodall herself, one of my idols since as far back as I can remember, and especially since I changed my University degree to Primatology back in 1999! We studied quite a lot of her work or things that had been influenced by her field research. She truly is remarkable! Incredible woman. I wanted to be like her - however, field work just wasn't for me, which is why after getting my degree, I went to tech school to do something different (I barely got through 3 weeks in the rainforest of Belize chasing howler monkeys!).

The book itself is a great autobiography of how she got where she is, and time in Africa with the Chimps. A lot of the info I knew from University plus going to her talks when she has come through town. Some of it was new (not a lot), but it's always great to brush-up!

However, this book doesn't go very in-depth (she has some other great books published if that's what you're looking for, which I'd recommend over this one), and it seems geared more towards children, especially this audio version which was filled with extremely distracting and highly irritating sound effects.

I reeeeeaaaallly wish they wouldn't have included the sound effects - they really detracted from the entire thing (I don't think children would even enjoy what was included. Maybe some chimp noises along the way, but it seems production tried to include any potential sound effect that was mentioned in the book. That whole part of it was really awful! I listen to a zillion audiobooks and have never experienced anything quite like this!).

Not just for kids

I got this for my kids but I found myself inspired and challenged by Jane's words. I'm 40 and this book has changed how I see and use the world around me. I hope to inspire someone some day. Thank you Jane!
