Summary

The phenomenal Sunday Times best seller.

Kevin Keegan is one of the greatest players in English football history, famed for his style on the pitch, his relentless ambition and passion for the game.

'And I'll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them. Love it!!!' (Kevin Keegan, 1996)

In My Life in Football Keegan tells the story of his remarkable rise through the sport, from the Peglers Brass Works reserve team in Doncaster to helping Liverpool become the kings of Europe, winning a Bundesliga title with Hamburg and captaining England. Keegan was recognised around the world as one of the sport's genuine superstars and remains the only Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or twice.

As a manager, Keegan's five-year spell in charge at Newcastle is now legendary; he led the club from the depths of the old Second Division to the brink of the Premier League title with a breathtaking vision and flamboyant style that saw his team dubbed 'The Entertainers'.

Fifty years since making his professional debut, Keegan tells the full story of the exhilarating highs and excruciating lows, from that epic battle with Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United in the 1995-6 season, as well as the pain of managing England and, finally, the shattering truth about his unhappy return to Newcastle in the controversial Mike Ashley era.Brilliant, funny, passionate, deeply moving and incredibly honest, My Life in Football is the story of the miner's son from Doncaster who became a superstar and was known to his adoring fans as 'King Kev'.

Throwback to my happiest football memories

This wonderful book took me back to the happiest memories I have as a Newcastle fan and some of the best times I enjoyed with my dad. A hero of my dad's as a player and a hero of us both as a manager. I can now appreciate much more fully Kevin achievements before my time and decisions which I couldn't understand on occasion. The book confirms why we all loved keegan, a charismatic. passionate man who wears his heart on his sleve. I only whish he'd narrated the audio book himself (no slight against the narrator, who is very good). Kevin, i wish you all the best in your retirement. Howay the lads!

No real insight

Kevin Keegan has always seemed a decent man and his success unfairly overlooked. There is little here that tells you more than you would have gleaned from the familiar sources over the years.

Top footballer, manager and man

As a NUFC fan I have always liked Kevin Keegan and how he conducted himself with passion and professionalism. He is a true inspiration and role model for any inspiring footballer or manager of any sector. His treatment in his second spell at Newcastle was deplorable but not surprising. Top book, a truly enjoyable insight.

The King of Football

I'm biased so feel free to ignore... but I genuinely loved this. Loved it.
Keegan is my hero, he epitomises what our club is, it's great to listen to his love of our club and his understanding of it...but in turn it's also sad to listen to how it ended.
But he's right, we will one day get OUR club back.

Long live the King. (Keegan).

Wonderful story of life and luck

This is an excellently listen about a man of talent who acknowledges that you also need a bit of luck. There are loads of fun anecdotes as well as interesting insides to the world of football. Keegan is an honourable man who came into contact with many, particularly at Newcastle, who were not. This is a good story.

Fire the narrator!

Love King Kev, but man, that narrator gots to go! I’m really having to slog through this audio book, with the narrator’s drab voice threatening to put me to sleep! There are a couple of cool stories in the book too, but the guy goes through it like, “Nothing to see here everybody, move on...”

Would have been way better if Kevin Keegan himself had narrated the book.
