Summary

As seen on BBC 2's hit TV show This Farming Life.

Emma Gray was just 23 when she moved to an isolated farm in Northumberland, becoming Britain's youngest solo shepherdess. In the seasons that followed, Emma fell in love with its rolling fields, sycamore trees and sturdy farmhouse, where she tended her sheep and trained her dogs - and even found romance along the way.

But when Emma finds herself suddenly alone again, heartbroken, mourning the loss of loved ones and recovering from a serious accident, she can't help but wonder if her isolated existence is still such a sensible idea. Even if she could recover, how could she make a proper living on Fallowlees Farm?

In her heart-warming new book, Emma reveals how she picks herself up from these setbacks to become one of the country's most successful trainers of Border Collies and how she - much to her surprise - finds true love and lasting happiness where she least expects it.

Written with warmth and humour, My Farming Life is testament to the healing power of nature and a joy for anyone who's ever dreamed of living closer to it.

One of those genuine non-stop listens...

A beautifully written true story about the vagaries of farming life. Always heart-warming, often touching and frequently amusing too. I hope Book 3 soon appears. Oh, and having Helen McAlpine as the narrator is again the perfect choice.

So very lovely!

I have watched the TV show ‘This Farming Life’ for many years. Emma & Euan were a brilliant addition. This book has provided so much more detail to their lives & Emma’s background. Her story was so well written & the narration excellent. A beautiful, gentle, honest account of the rise of a top female dog trainer & farmer. Well worth a listen.

A Wonderful Story.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this story, well read and very true to life. In some ways it has been an echo of my own life, some of it I can relate to, some of it wishful thinking. I have learnt a lot of the ups and downs of life in general, expectations along with disappointments and how to overcome the “downs” and pick yourself up to go on to achieve better things.

I’ve just finished listening to both of Emma’s audiobooks back to back. Not much more to say but what lovely books. Funny, sad (I cried at least once) and eye opening. Thanks Emma

Narrator is fantastic; author a screw-up.

This 23-year-old's bad judgment and deadly mistakes were unforgivable; I quit by chapter 7. Many books entertain and enlighten; this is not among them.
