Summary

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan....

She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he'll never find out before her sisters' weddings and she can go back to her own quiet life.

Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it's just a few new ball gowns on the duke's accounts. Then it's interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton - with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiance.

But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected....

Contains mature themes.

A lovely story reined

If you can manage to plow through the dreadful narration you'll find a lovely romance.

I could sort 9f handle the breathiness but not saying simple words properly us just unforgettable.

Mary Sarah would repeated say barck (back), larp (lap) and others the same.

I will never but a another book narrated by her.

Thanks you Stacy for a beautiful story.

Horrible Narration

The story would have been ok if it had not been for the narrator. The narrator had a very breathy voice, she paused too often and in inappropriate places, and pronounced words like she was trying a fancy British accent, but she just sounded ridiculous. I had to stop listening because it was way too annoying. If you can ignore the narrator, I’d recommend the story.

Cute story

The narrator made it hard to listen. The fluctuation in her voice was annoying and hard to hear. The story was cute though.

Breathy and whispering narrative

Tough to listen to. Narrative is breathy and soft...very annoying. Story is alright...a bit slow.

I liked this story

Interesting storyline. My first book by Stacy Reid. I got it because of Mary Sarah narration. Romance is good, no threats or danger...just interesting romance.

I will probably try another of Ms. Reid's books.

I recommend.

Overwhelmingly intriguing read

This is actually one of the best books I have listened to via audible and I would encourage others to enjoy it as I have. The storyline was a love story whereby the Duke an injured man overcame his limitations to marry a woman determined to have him regardless of his limitations. I could not put it down.

Good romantic story

It’s been a while since I read a romance as I’m into historical mysteries with a side of romance now. So as romances goes it has all the elements, but I require other themes than a budding relationship. I love this author’s fantasy romance Amagarian series and can’t wait for its next release.

Definitely enjoyed the audio narration of this book. The narrator was very good as her voice put you in the mood of the story and provided excellent character distinction.
