Summary

Agatha Christie's most famous murder mystery, recorded by the director and star of the blockbuster film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer - in case he or she decides to strike again.

Disappointing was expecting better

With her most famous book being read by such a thespian I wes expecting more from this narration. The narrative especially the first few chapters felt rushed,as though he was doing a practice read through before a scene. The accents were all over the place, which I don't think was helped by the strange voice he gave to the doctor,it was a wonder he hadn't lost his voice by the end! Although not terrible I now wish I had got the David suchet version

Murder on the Orient Express

One of my all time favourite books. I thoroughly enjoyed Kenneth Branagh’s reading of it. I will no doubt listen to this time and time again.

Wonderful Christie wonderfully performed.

l love this book by the Mistress of Murder. While l enjoyed the version read by Dan Stevens, l prefer Kenneth Branagh's performance as the great little Belgian. His voice and characterisation is much closer to the Poirot of the novels and short stories. The denouement is a perfect example of how the Great Dame of Mystery and whodunits could compile the most complex series of facts, distractions and red herrings into a perfect and believable conclusion.

I wish i could give it ten stars

A well loved detective story and an incredible performance by Kenneth Branagh. A sympathetic interpretation at times moving. I particularly appreciate his rendering of Hercule Poirot as he avoids completely the trap of the grotesque emphasis in which many actors have fallen.

Amazing.

I loved it. Did you guess who did it? It is very hard 🙂. I'll give you a clue; Everyone has a Motive BUT Everyone has an Alabi for the SUSSPOSED murder time. So who did it??? I first thought it was The American detective.

Very entertaining.

My first Agatha Christie book and one I enjoyed enormously. Kenneth Branagh does a wonderful job reading and voicing the characters and his Poirot, just like in the movie, is spot on. My one criticism would have to be the last few minutes of the final chapter. The ending was a bit rushed in how Poirot came to his final solution and then it just ends. I think it would've benefitted to have an epilogue or something. Other than that, it was a great listen.

Really fun!

Although I have always been aware of the Poirot stories and Agatha Christie, this is my first time reading/listening to one of the stories. I chose it because I’m living abroad and wanted something comforting and British to listen to. I couldn’t guess the whodunnit, and I found the whole story including the ending very satisfying. Sometimes voice actors doing different voices can be off putting but I really liked Kenneth Branagh’s performance. Thank you :)

His accents are very good

Would you listen to Murder on the Orient Express again? Why?

I don't think so. I was reading the book at the same time as listening to it, so I hardly missed anything.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything is a clue! Damn it was too clever!!

Which character – as performed by Kenneth Branagh – was your favorite?

The sweedish woman. it was quite close to how it should sound. Anyhow what impressed me is that he utelized many aaccents that sounded very convincing!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh when I got things right and at some other things.

Any additional comments?

Really good! And very fun!

The best piece of spoken theatre

Agatha Christie's words read out perfectly and masterfully by Kenneth Branagh. He was simply sublime - acting out every character as though there really was an entire cast involved in the production. Highly recommended as it is an absolute treat!
