Meet maverick British detective DI Skelgill... "mad, bad and just a little bit cozy."

WHEN A LONG-SERVING MASTER at one of England’s most prestigious public schools drowns in Bassenthwaite Lake, Detective Inspector Skelgill is summoned to investigate his apparent suicide.

It soon becomes clear that senior members of staff are not all that they seem. As the school closes ranks, Skelgill realises he is pitted against a sinister power struggle for control of its highly lucrative operation.

A second violent death threatens to throw the police off the scent, and the sudden mysterious disappearance of a VIP pupil sows panic in their ranks. In a race against time Skelgill is faced by the unthinkable consequences of a third tragedy on his watch.©2014 Bruce Beckham (P)2023 W.F.Howes Ltd

Great story and characters with sensitive descriptions of nature and instinctive relationship with the wildlife. Disappointed that so many of the series are not available on audiable. Hopefully this will change in the future.

I originally chose the Skelgill novels because of the narrator, Jonathan Keeble, since I could listen to him read a shopping list and enjoy it. Am discomfitted that he doesn't seem to be narrating the rest of the series as he has given Skelgill and other characters the uniqueness they deserve, however I utterly loved the first two in the series (because of Keeble) and will probably listen to them again and again. Jury's out on the subsequent audio books, may have to physically read the rest rather than listen, as the stories/plots themselves are great.

Gently humorous crime detection

loved the intricate plot and the atmospheric references to the Lake District. Even enjoyed the detailed descriptions of fishing techniques as someone who knows nothing about the subject.

The excellent narration by Jonathan Keeble

As murder mysteries go, it certainly has an unusual plot but there are a few to many improbabilities to be totally believable. If you like guessing 'whodunnit' then go with the Miss Marple style of investigation and choose the person who seems to behave well throughout!

A cross between Miss Marple and The Sweeney!

Loved this book, better than the first even! Now we just need Jonathan Keeble to record all the others in this series! Hurry, please!
