About this listen

The sport of kings is the backdrop for a game of murder where one player loses more than the match. Can Cleo solve the case, or will the murderer win?

Summer has arrived along with a plethora of social events that keep Cleo and her cousins busy. Between balls, dinners, concerts and picnics, they attend the final match between two proud polo clubs. When the winning team’s captain is found murdered in the stables, everyone assumes the opposing team’s captain killed him. After all, he was found holding the murder weapon, and everyone knows they hated each other.

But Cleo isn’t convinced. She sets out to prove his innocence alongside Harry Armitage, who was employed to investigate the accused man’s family. With their cases overlapping, it makes sense to work together.

The more they get to know the victim, the more they realize the handsome athlete sported a dark side that few people saw. Those who did had a reason to kill him. Which suspect struck the victim with his own polo mallet? His wife, lover, friends or colleagues?

Or did the rivalry between two opposing captains spill over to their personal lives, and lead to murder?

This is the first book in this series , which I felt was a bit slow in developing- I started to listen to it in higher speed 1.5 … as the story took for ever to “grip” me - but as the story developed I felt happy again - and like with the previous books - the outcome was satisfying!

Again - the narrator did a fabulous job 👍

Another great story but slow …

I love a good, murder mystery and hunt them down wherever possible..!
This series has be at the top as has become some of my favourite listens ever( and i have nearly 70 reads with audible),so much so i became hooked .
Buying every book ( 1 to 8)
Within a 3 weeks and have listened to them all twice !!
Loving the life this author has brought to each and every character she's created!
The detailed characteristics and behaviour have truly kept me hooked and has brought them all to life in my mind (not leaving any of the minor rolls out) ,From doormen, maids to lords.( good and bad in people)
They seem very real and of their time .
Now i come to the way "Clio"and "Harry"slowly fall in love.I find to be truly magical .
Every look, touch emotion felt.I find brilliantly detailed and observed and beautifully written.( i do hope they end up together as im so invested in their relationship. I will be devastated if they don't and won't be able with the collection)
It reminds me of when i met my other half nearly 30 years ago.
A few months of being in love( not knowing the other was, too), but good friends (hoping more could be) .
These books have brought it all back so vividly. So, to those who have expressed a little frustration in their reviews,it does happen and is magical if you're lucky enough to have experienced it .
Now, as good as these books are written, i would have to say that a narrator brings them vividly to life (as much as the writer). She is brilliant too.
Her character voice range is fantastic you never get character mixed up with another (in you're minds eye) even when a few are in one scene.even her men sound like men! It's also great that the same narrator has done the whole series too,(so far) as it can changes the dynamic when you're 5 books in and knowing every character then narrator changes and you feel lost !
Can't wait until near christmas when book 9 becomes available.
But at least i can listen to these again while i wait .Thankyou!!!!🥰

great collection 👌

Not much suspense but a lot of old fashioned British charm and coziness. The narrator is definitely doing a good job!

Cozy
