Wow, what a book. I’m actually not quite sure how to describe it. Memoir, essays, travel, social observations, philosophy? I loved the city chapters as I grew up as an expatriate myself and recognised so much of that feeling of moving between places, adapting, and never being completely sure where home is. Some parts felt strangely familiar, kudos to the author. It’s such a wide collection of stories, thoughts and experiences, wasn’t always sure where it was taking me. Entertaining, but some chapters were also quite sad to listen to. By the end I realised I’d spent more than half the book thinking about my own life. Recommend!

I have loved this book. It's the first book in a long time that has caused me to just pause what I'm doing and enjoy listening.

Maria's story is one that so many women can relate to. I lived in Dubai for 5 years and totally understand the complex feelings around being an expat and how to learn to live in strange environment learning all the various do and don't.

Harriet Talbot's narration was perfect in getting Maria's story across in a compelling listen without any superficial emotion. Due to the narration being very natural makes this Memoire all the more relatable and compelling listening.

There are so many times when I've wanted to to hug Maria and reassure her that so many of us have experienced similar feelings, and life experiences.

Women go through so many challenges, changes and roles during the course of their lifetime that on the whole we don't share with others.

Thank you to both Maria and Harriet for something a very special and pesonal listening experience.
