Summary

A heart-warming, heart-wrenching wartime story about friendship and courage from AJ Pearce, the bestselling author of Dear Mrs Bird.

'Utterly charming and uplifting' – Jill Mansell

Emmy Lake is the much-loved agony aunt at Woman’s Friend magazine, relied upon by readers across the country as they face the challenges of life on the Home Front. With the problem page thriving and a team of fantastic women behind her, Emmy finally feels she is Doing Her Bit.

But when a glamorous new owner arrives, everything changes. As the Honourable Mrs Porter tries to charm her way around the rest of the team, Emmy realizes that she plans to destroy everything readers love about the magazine.

With happiness quickly turning to heartbreak and war still raging in Europe, will Emmy and her friends find the inner strength they need to keep keeping on - and save the magazine they love?

'Heartbreaking yet feel-good, we loved it' – Woman & Home

'A winning combination of warmth, humour and a compelling story of the power of friendship' – Katie Fforde

Just wonderful 😊

This is the third book in the series, so if you haven’t read or listened to the first two yet, I recommend you read those first. You have a treat in store! Following characters you will love and care about, you will be transported back to WW2 with all its hardships, cheery camaraderie and wartime spirit. Completely wonderful!! Next instalment please!

Love these books

Lovely period stories - heartwarming and emotional. I see them a little in the vein of Call the Midwife. Well researched, full of interesting details and beautifully read. I can’t wait for the next one.

I do hope there’s another one!

The third book in this series about women’s lives in WW2 is every bit as charming, sad and uplifting as it’s predecessors. As it finishes in January 1944, I do hope that AJ Pearce can give us another one to get Emmie and her chums through to the end of the war!

Wonderful

Every bit as good as the previous two books. Humour, pathos, tragedy, all combining to make a brilliant narrative. And read perfectly.
