Constance Hardy is a woman of vision, certainty, and an unshakable belief that reality ought to behave with more dignity. Unfortunately for everyone around her—especially her husband Winston, a man of quiet desperation—it does not.
Determined to host the defining cocktail party of the season, Constance assembles an impossible guest list of celebrities, intellectuals, social climbers, and ornamental bores. But as the evening spirals into beautifully organized chaos, it becomes increasingly clear that everyone understands exactly what they are doing—except what they are actually doing.
A stoned band, existential caterers, the desperate search for fresh tuna, mysterious leaks, intrusive construction workers, and mounting financial ruin collide over the course of one catastrophic evening, while Winston watches the cost—social, emotional, and literal—climb ever higher.
Wry, absurd, and sharply observed, MRS. HARDY’S COCKTAIL PARTY is a dark comic novel about social ambition, marriage without escape routes, and a society politely agreeing not to notice that nothing is quite as it seems.
Your attendance is strongly encouraged.

There is also a pleasing sense of old-fashioned storytelling about the experience. It has the charm of a radio play but with the sharpness of modern day quality, wit, and humour.
If you enjoy character-driven stories, witty conversation and the slightly delicious feeling that you have been allowed into a gathering where you probably shouldn't be privy to every conversation, this is well worth a listen.
A lovely listen with plenty of character
