Summary

When did Mr. Darcy first fall in love with Miss Elizabeth Bennet?

This is a short and steamy Jane Austen fan fiction romantic story about fine eyes, a dirty petticoat, and their effect on a gentleman's ability to reign in his passion. Mr. Darcy reflects upon the bewitching Miss Elizabeth Bennett, his admiration growing ever warmer as he imagines her as his wife.

Note: the following short consists of Mr. Darcy's romantic reflections, randy reveries, and ultimately rapturous release during a night at Netherfield. Ever the proper and considerate gentleman, Mr. Darcy believes in closed doors, but for you, dear reader, the door to his thoughts has been swung fully open. If you don't wish to know what the ardent Mr. Darcy would really like to do with Elizabeth, then please do not purchase this story.

Short but steamy

Mr Darcy's Reverie is a sensual short story which 'reimagines' Jane Austen's most famous leading man, and what he might have gotten up to in the privacy of his own bedchamber…

This was my first time listening to a Pride and Prejudice vagary of this kind, as I love the original and wasn't keen on others treading on Austen's toes and subverting the intended tone, as so many of the self-styled spinoffs have been rather lacklustre. This one, however, was a very pleasant surprise! As fanfiction goes it was an admirable attempt, and as the story progressed I felt myself increasingly able to picture Darcy's discomfiture, and being drawn further in to believing these thoughts to be those of a very familiar character. As it began to heat up, both Darcy and Elizabeth were believable reimaginings, and their union was great fun.

I liked the references to the original novel, and found they were enough for me to suspend disbelief and imagine it is Austen's Darcy whose thoughts we are hearing, though the author sometimes quotes complete phrases which feels a little heavy-handed. It would have been subtler to use similar phrasing and key words to link this story to the original.

The only drawback, for me, was the feeling that a good editor would have been able to tighten up some of the phrasing and encourage the author away from the clumsy repetition of certain words and phrases ('tendrils', 'rendered', 'perfect symmetry' etc). It wasn't enough to ruin the story, but it was a shame, as a little more polish would have given this story the flair it deserved.

There was a moment when Darcy's musings became a more specific fantasy when it felt very much as if this were two stories that had been retrofitted to work together, and was a little jarring, but then it found its momentum once more and settled back in.

The narrator, J K Mannion, read the story pleasantly, capturing Darcy's reserve, his intensity and his well-spoken manner as he begins to be undone by his desire. That passion and desperation slowly makes its way into his performance as the story builds.

Though the haughtiness associated with the original was somewhat lacking, perhaps that is a matter of perception, as it was often others who felt Darcy to be "proud and disagreeable" and he did not share that opinion of himself, so it would arguably not be present in his private reflections.

I did slow the speed down to 0.95x on Audible, which I felt much improved the performance. It made it more sensual, deepened the narrator's voice very slightly, and was more in-keeping with how I imagine Darcy to speak. A tiny change, but one which I felt made a significant difference to my enjoyment of the audiobook.

I'd definitely read more from this author, and this narrator, especially upon the same subject as it was good, silly. steamy fun.

I'd recommend it to fans of Pride and Prejudice and romantic erotica who are happy to suspend their disbelief long enough to imagine Darcy's blood - and other things - beginning to rise...

Loved it!!

This is book is tastefully well done. As a fan of Pride and Prejudice I always wished for more romance between Elizabeth and Darcey even if it is just a daydream. The narrator certainly brought the author's sensual vision to fruition while keeping a respectful balance. For a short window in the ever after part of this love story this book is perfect!! I was given a free copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily decided to leave this review.

Great Read

Mr. Darcy's Reverie was a great read by Emma Hawke. This quick read tells of when Mr. Darcy first fell in love with Miss Elizabeth Bennett. This was a great Jane Austen fan fiction about how much Darcy admires Elizabeth.

Sexy Musings of Mr. Darcy, Narrator is Wonderful

Emma Hawke's short story Mr. Darcy's Reverie is a creative and sexy journey of Fitzwilliam Darcy's thought process as he muses over his attraction to Elizabeth Bennet.

The story picks up steam as he lauds her charms and realizes what a spitfire she'll be when they're intimate. There's some very romantic and lascivious imagery here, and it fits nicely with the time period. It works well for Mr. Darcy to unravel this way, and I love to think of Elizabeth giving him everything of which he's dreamed...

The narrator, JK Mannion is wonderful. His melodic voice and lovely British accent is perfect for Mr. Darcy. As the story grows more heated, Mannion's voice reflects Darcy's growing arousal. It's easy to see him unraveling as his lust grows while he imagines what a passionate coupling with Elizabeth will be like.

I'll definitely look for audiobooks narrated by Mr. Mannion again - 4 stars for his performance.

3 1/2 Stars - For Pride & Prejudice Fans

So I heard Pride and Prejudice and just had to snap this up! This is a collection of moments in time, told from Darcy's perspective. I really enjoyed this imagining of Darcy's private thoughts. What keeps this from being great, in my opinion, is that there was no actual interaction with Elizabeth. I think the story would have benefited from being spun out longer. But it was still enjoyable. And by the end, it really heated up! That final scene, in this narrator's voice... Yummy!

This narrator is new to me and wow, did I enjoy that accent... I think the narrator elevated the story as I doubt I'd have liked it as well, had I read it. I did take it down a star because sometimes the pacing felt a little off (the pauses) but still very good! I'll be looking for more from this narrator. I received a free copy and have voluntarily left a review.
