Summary

A man must survive the zombie apocalypse armed with only a shotgun, a Samurai bat, and the will to live among the unliving in this horror series debut.

It’s been two years since civilization ended in an unstoppable wave of chaos and blood. Now, former house painter Augustus “Gus” Berry lives a day-to-day existence of waking up, getting drunk, and preparing for the inevitable moment when “they” will come up the side of his mountain and penetrate his fortress.

Living on the outskirts of Annapolis, Gus goes scavenging for whatever supplies remain in the undead suburbia below. Every time he descends the mountain could be his last. But when Gus encounters another survivor, he soon realizes the zombie horde may not be the greatest threat he faces . . .

Smashing!

its been a long time since a book has made me laugh out loud and this one did. It also made me cringe and squirm in pain out of sympathy for the characters. Bloody brilliant.

Brought in error Glad I Did :)

What made the experience of listening to Mountain Man the most enjoyable?

The hero is normal man whom is just has a reasonable moral standing but has his flaws like all of us.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gus, just a flawed man down the right thing

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Narration was good the story came across well.

Any additional comments?

I got this book in error and boredom waiting for ZF8 but i was happy i did, this is a good story really nothing deep but the book whizzes by as you just get engrossed following the characters along........ Not sure i got humour in Scott messing himself but only low point in the book.

Enjoyable listen

Narration was very good, enjoyed the story but felt the author could of explained what became of Gus rather than setting up the next book.

Definitely worth a 2nd listen.
Would recommend to friends.

Enthralling

Fantastic, absolutely loved listening to this, story and narration are top draw.
I have subsequently listened to the second book in series which equally as good and have purchased the third because I couldn't leave it there.
So incredibly well described I can picture the whole story in my mind.
By far one of the best listens for me on Audible.

Happy go lucky Gus!

I’ve listened to the hole series of books I think 3 times now and enjoyed all of them from start to finish. One of the best zombie novels going.

Great follow on from The hospital

Any additional comments?

This is a great zombie type book, I loved it ! ONE BIG problem though - I need the next one! it has left me hanging by a thread!!!!

It would be great if Audiable could e-mail when the next book from a series comes out - I am worried I may miss it !?
This author hasn't got any other books here, which is a shame, as I would take a look!

Addictive.

It's never going to win any literary prize, but it's a great story performed, as always impeccably by R.C. If you want to piss your wife off by ignoring her for a day or so, this will sure do it. It's a bit of a slowish repetative begining but once into gear it keeps its momentum up by introducing new story elements just at the right moment. How it would read as a book I'm not sure, but it's perfect for an audio book. If you listen with headphones that cut the world out, it makes you feel as though you've been drawn into the dystopian world of Gus.

Zombie!

That’s not a spoiler alert, the story is about Zombies! Or more to the point, the life about surviving in a world full of Zombies. In my opinion, a great survival tale, just ticking along as any life does until a life threatening event happens… and they do. Really enjoyable and fantastically read for audio. Bring on the rest of the books in the series now. Did I mention it has Zombies in it? 👍🏻
