Summary

Surviving the zombie apocalypse requires supplies—like booze, weapons, and toilet paper—in the second prequel to the Mountain Man series.

Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead.

Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply. But getting his hands on any of these essentials requires the one thing he can’t face doing, and that’s leaving his modern mountain fortress and returning to Annapolis and the horrors that roam its streets in search of the living.

With winter looming, Gus must procure these much-needed supplies quickly, before the snow piles too high and blocks the roads. And that’s when he’ll face the greatest challenge of all: maintaining his sanity . . .

disappointed

there comes a time when an author decides to just cash in on a successful series and this is it - I love the mountain man series but this 2nd prequel is just rubbish - no story - quite frankly it's boring - the series of other books is funny and edgey but belive me this does not live up - if it wasn't for the always brilliant r c bray I would have binned off listening to it - read and love the rest of the series and don't poison the experience by listening to this.

What Happened?

The other prequel was blooming fantastic but this…..?

It’s just a cash££ in story. Can’t believe I was looking forward to another ‘MM’

PS….Still love you Mr Blackmore….just not sharing my pizza with you….not after this.

good book

I read this book when it came out back on the kindle, I thoroughly enjoyed reading, I also thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook, Bray as usual does a great job conveying Gus's mental struggle, The story picks up a few days after the ending of the first prequel, with Gus wallowing in guilt and self loaving and having to deal with it the only way he can think of... Drinking. very enjoyable, also the plot error at the end of the prequel is amended in this book.
strongly recommend for any mountain man fans and fans of apocalyptic zombie horror too

Enjoyable

I'm a fan of the mountain man series and Mr Blackmore, so I'm probably biased. That being said it's a great story giving us some background into Gus' early plight in the zombie mayhem. Now I'll be going back through the series again.

Loved it.

Once again Keith C Blackmore ♥ has kept me on the edge of my seat with the antics of Augustus Berry, better known to his fans as Gus.
plenty of action to retain the listeners attention, makes me want to start this amazing series again.

Ahhhh never say no to more Mountain Man!

Another great story of our beloved Gus, great to hear more of how he got through the early days , I will never get bored of listening to these books. Whilst it may not be as action packed as the other books, it still gives you insight into how he became the way he was . Thanks again Mr K.C. Blackmore and Mr R.C.Bray. Look forward to more =)

Poor!

First prequal was pretty good, encouraged me to get the second book. Unfortunately it degrades into chapter after chapter of self pity & someone eagerly drinking themselves to death. Oh boohoo, poor me, I've survived an Apocolypse! Sucks chunks!

Excellent .. just as I would expect a post apocalyptic adventure.

As usual a fav performance for R.C. But the story if this one stood out over others for me as it was how I would expect the early days to go. Scavenging, panic, close encounters. No drama from kids like other zombie stories. More realistic imho.

Such a disappointment.

I have enjoyed every book in this series but this one is just terrible.
The first prequel was great as there was a variety of different characters you could connect with, but for me the whole idea of a prequel is it needs some sustenance, the reader already knows Gus is going to survive and that next he will have to deal with Alice the fucked up nurse.
So there needs to be other characters and challenges to overcome. This was just him drunk house picking.
Multiple hours of drunken slurs and burping directly down the headphones only irritated me.
R. C. Bray is my favourite narrator but in this book it was hard to enjoy him.
I certainly hope that book 7 is better because this was just utter shit.
