Summary
Mostly Harmless is the fifth and final part in Douglas Adams' much-loved cult classic series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, read by Martin Freeman.
Arthur Dent hadn't had a day as bad as this since the Earth had been blown up.
After years of galactic wanderings, Arthur finally settles on the small planet Lamuella and becomes a sandwich maker. Looking forward to a quiet life, his plans are thrown awry
by the unexpected arrival of his daughter.
There's nothing worse than a frustrated teenager with a copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in their hands. When she runs away, Arthur goes after her determined to save her from the horrors of the universe.
After all – he's encountered most of them before . . .

Hilarious and so well read!
From beginning to end, I was hooked. It was a book I bought with the intention being I would listen in passing whilst doing other jobs but I couldn't not listen!

If only it were longer....
...and if only he had been here to write more. A fantastic book and a great performance.

Is that it?
Adam's absurdist sci-fi romp continues, and as it does I realise I have a few questions, and a few very minor gripes.
It feels as if very little of what occurs in the previous novels has any impact on the next, despite it being one continuous narrative.
The characters of Fenchurch and Zaphod being entirely written out of the story despite being major players in the story as a whole, both in regards to their individual characters and how they've affected the main characters feels... it doesn't feel right.
I enjoyed the story moving back and forth between Arthur and Ford's individual perspectives for the main bulk of the story. Parallel Trillians only added to the confusion of it all which I believe was the intention, but then it just...ends. The story just ends. There's no closure, no resolution, it just ends. So much is unresolved, so many questions left unanswered.
Overall it was a good listen, another solid entry in this series, but at the same time, the ending of it all left me wanting.

Loved It
If Douglas Adams could have chosen someone to read his books I think he would have chosen Martin Freeman. Perhaps he did. Or is he dead? Regardless, Martin's perfectly dry delivery makes him the ideal carrier for Douglas' perfectly dry wit. Between them they had me laughing out loud and the Adams-Freeman combination is one I keep coming back to.
