About this listen

"If you've ever been in a remote area when something terrible goes wrong, then you know the fear of utter helplessness. Mosquito Man nails this. A superbly crafted psychological thriller." (New York Journal of Books)

From USA Today and number-one Amazon best-selling author Jeremy Bates comes the first book in the all-new World's Scariest Legends series.

After a woman bangs at the door in the middle of the night and promptly dies from her injury, a couple's remote cabin getaway becomes a psychological night of terror as they are hunted by an unknown assailant. Now they must go far beyond what they thought themselves capable of if they hope to save their young children and survive until morning.

This is much better than The Sleep Experiment that I had listened to prior.
The plot is fairly predictable, as the title of the story may attest. Rex, Tabitha, and their kids go to a remote cabin for the weekend only for it to turn sour quickly when a body turns up and Rex’s past comes back to haunt him. The pace is a little odd at times, and there are sections that are word for word retelling of earlier parts of the book, but on the whole it’s a solidly structured plot.
The main characters aren’t too deep, and feel a little too “good”, but they serve the tale well enough. I liked how the children’s thoughts were written in a child like manner.
Narration was good enough, although lacks emotion during some scenes. The voices for each character were distinct though.

By the numbers, but a solid enough story.
