Summary

Shadowvale isn’t your typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse.

Exiled king of the goblins Robin Gallow has no choice but to live in Shadowvale. That was the deal he made with his ex-wife and current queen of the goblins in exchange for the antidote to the poison she gave him. Now, the town has become his prison, and his world is closing in on him. It’s enough to drive a man insane.

Theodora “Moody” Middlebright wants nothing to do with Shadowvale or the royal beast she’s about to spend the next year of her life with. But her father owes the man a debt, and he’s too unwell to pay it himself. So Theo has come in his stead. Doesn’t mean she’s one bit happy about it. But then Theo hasn’t been happy about anything since her mother died.

Turns out, Theo’s sharp wit and brash attitude are the breath of fresh air Robin didn’t know he needed, and the two somehow hit it off. But when his trust issues and her secrets collide, their budding feelings for each other are threatened with extinction.

Can Robin learn to trust a woman who’s kept her true identity hidden her whole life? Will it even matter if Theo thinks he’s the beast everyone believes him to be? Or will love give them both a brand-new start?

audio issues

So far the story is fine and the read great as usually, there seems to have been an issues with editing. There is random audio either from later in the book or separate project in chapter 3 about 40 minutes in.

Editing problems

I have only gotten to chapter 3, but so far in this chapter there have been 3 times that the narration is speaking over itself. I am not sure if it is from the same chapter or not. It is only a few seconds each time. I replayed it to make sure my phone isn't the problem. Otherwise, I expect the same great story,as usual. I will change my review as soon as the problem is fixed. Thanks.

Moody little beast

Okay, I pretty much loved all things Shadowvale, but I pretty much love all things Kristen Painter, so it's expected. I've now "read" all books in the Shadowvale series, and yup, I pretty much loved them all. The one I struggled with the most was The Forgettable Miss French because both she and the male character were very isolated until the end, and while they both had some pretty funny things happen it just wasn't quite the same. What I loved about this book besides Moody and the Beast was how the story traveled between realms. The time spent in Limbo is minimal, but it was still there, and thanks to Theo, aka Moody, you get a sense of how things are in Limbo, think Snow White's country under the evil queen's rule. Yes, it's a tad predictable as you know Robin is not guilty of the crime he has been portrayed as committing in Limbo's history books, that's obvious from the get-go, so I don't feel guilty for spoiling it. Last but not least, B.J. Harrison is phenomenal. Favorite book in the series, not quite, that belongs to The Vampire's Cursed Kiss, but this was no less awesome.

Wow!

I almost gave up on this book because it was slow going. I’m so glad I didn’t, because like other reviewers said- THE BEST in the series! I won’t spoil the book for others, but I felt like the end was rushed. All of a sudden things happened really, really fast when there could’ve been much more plot development and character development. It didn’t take away from the book whatsoever, it just felt rushed. I think the author could’ve done a sequel to this one actually instead of rushing the last few chapters. Still- a fantastic book! Would definitely recommend.

The best one yet

This was the best one yet in the series. If you haven’t read any of them, this one would be great to dive into. Of course, I’d recommend starting with the first just because. I loved Robin and Moody (Theo). He was untrusting and she was just so out there, as in what you see is what you get. It didn’t matter if you were rich or poor, she treated all the same. She was just what Robin needed in his unfair life. He’s made the best of life after being cursed by his ex wife, the queen. Now he is banished to live in Shadowvale all his days. Theo has come to pay off a debt in her father’s place. The two hit it off immediately. She is reluctant to tell her secret. When the unthinkable happens, she has no choice but to reveal it. This causes a big wall to come down between her and Robin. Read or listen to find out how they overcome it. And see if the evil queen gets her just desserts. I LOVE this narrator. He is so perfect. I can’t imagine anyone else doing Kristen’s books.

A Left at the Door Review of Moody And The Beast

I enjoyed Moody and the Beast quite a bit and was happy for the opportunity to revisit Shadowvale. Getting to know the Goblin King better, and learn about the realm he used to rule expanded the town and universe of the story well. I felt a little bit let down that the story didn't take longer to build a slow burn with the attraction between the leads, but I read the whole book in one sitting so it captured my attention. Overall I give the story 4 stars. Great characters, good story, enjoyable read.
