Story
When marine private Oliver Chadwick Gardenier is killed in the marine barrack bombing in Beirut, somebody who might be Saint Peter gives him a choice: Go to heaven, which, while nice, might be a little boring, or return to earth. The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

Story
After the War of the Gods, the demons were cast out and fell to the world. Mankind was nearly eradicated by the seemingly unstoppable beasts, until the gods sent the great hero, Ramrowan, to save them. He united the tribes, gave them magic, and drove the demons into the sea. Ever since the land has belonged to man and the oceans have remained an uncrossable hell, leaving the continent of Lok isolated. It was prophesized that someday the demons would return, and only the descendants of Ramrowan would be able to defeat them. They became the first kings, and all men served those who were their only hope for survival.

All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself. Story
In the twentieth century Earth sent probes, transmissions and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy.

Summary
Monster Hunter International might be the premier monster eradication company in the business, but they’ve got competition.
When hunters from around the world gather in Las Vegas for a conference, a creature left over from a World War Two weapons experiment wakes up and goes on a rampage across the desert. A not-so-friendly wager between the rival companies turns into a race to see who can bag the mysterious creature first. Only there is far more to this particular case than meets the eye, and as Hunters fall prey to their worst nightmares, Owen Zastava Pitt and the staff of Monster Hunter International have to stop an ancient god from turning Sin City into a literal hell on earth.

great book, well narrated. characters just getting better. lovely mix of humour with the savagery and horror. only tiny criticism is the narrator struggles a bit with British / Australian accents, but that is an act of pedantry on my account.

Back to proper MHI
The harbinger side show gets a couple of references here but for the most part this is back on track with Kick-Ass humans facing monsters with extreme fire power. Proper MHI! Call twist on a new species also always makes me happy. My one problem with this story is that it has the distinct feel of being part of a larger story arc. Previous books have been a little bit more standalone, mysterious new bad guy, find the bad guy, shoot bad guy in the face and maybe pick up a plot point. This one is all about building towards a bigger enemy in a later book. Overall I am happy with the story though, story is told from Owens perspective are so much more fun, filled with more sarcasm and cool lines.

What A Shock...
I would've never thought it possible for me to love a series of books with lots of guns, violence and monsters.
Now, I can't get enough.
And I'm kind of unhappy that I've just purchased this on the 2nd day of it's release and now have to wait for the next installment.
Personally, I'm holding Larry Correia and Oliver Wyman responsible; Correia weaves a fast-paced interesting tale that's surprisingly almost plausible and Oliver Wyman simply brings the men AND the women in these stories to life in a way that audiobook readers hope for with every download.
One of the best aspects of this series is that the characters are so very, very different from myself that there is very little for me to identify with and despite that, they're very real, down to earth people who could be (and probably are) my neighbors. I find myself empathizing with them and cheering them on whether they're dealing with end-of-the-world-monsters or bureaucrats. In the midst of unusual and/or challenging situations these characters are still just men and women dealing with whatever life is handing them and struggling to do the best they can; some are heroic, and some are evil-kind of like what we run into everyday. Yet it's heartening to think that there's an organization that looks for "flexible minds" and trusts in the diversity and innate humanity of most individuals. Plus I just like a story that includes werewolves and dragons based on a gun-nut accountant and his Southern Belle art lover wife who kicks ass and carries big guns. Now THAT''S quite a love story!
What I didn't like about this book? Other than the fact that it wasn't long enough and I wanted more Earl? Nothing. The story offers a compelling take on an interesting point in history; we learn a little more about an organization that doesn't officially exist as well as learn a little more about its nefarious head. We get to see the repercussions of past adventures for members of MHI as well as for those who are collateral damage like Mosh (David). This story explores the fears of the hunters and as a writers device it's brilliant-we get the back story for characters we've come to love and we also encounter characters we thought we'd lost forever while getting more information about Owen and Julie. This is solid story-telling from Correia; the story may drive the characters but it's the people he's created and that Wyman gives life and substance to that always leaves me wanting more.

What happens in Vegas dies in Vegas
If you could sum up Monster Hunter Legion in three words, what would they be?
massive butt kicking
What was one of the most memorable moments of Monster Hunter Legion?
I like when they find a dragon running things underneath one of the casions. This kind of came out of left field.
What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?
he has a wide range of voices and captures the humor and emotion of the series quite well.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Without spoiling anything I was sad to see a character from the previous book die. It was interesting to see Pitt have to grow up a bit and accept the consequences of orders he gives.
Any additional comments?
Great book and I can't wait for the next as it will be from the POV of Agent Franks.

Fan FREAKING Tastic!
Ah, the buttkicking, the mayhem, it is all back! Enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes, and the book just leaves you wanting more. The worst part about Larry Correia's books is waiting impatiently for the next one. Seriously, the action is as usual, the best there is. Oliver Wyman is without a doubt one of the best narrators for this genre. Use your credit, you can't go wrong with this one. (Make sure to read the others first--so you don't spoil what's gone on before now for yourself.) Makes other audio books seem hum drum. Can't wait to see what's next in this series.

What happens in Vegas...
Originally posted at FanLit
What’s more fun than hanging out with Owen “Big Z” Pitt, Earl Harbinger, Julie, Milo, Holly, Trip, Mosh Pitt, and Skippy the orc at the MHI compound in rural Alabama? How about MHI meeting up with teams from all over the world at a monster hunter conference in Las Vegas? And how about if that ancient Lovecraftian god that Big Z pissed off three books ago decides to unleash his wrath right about now? And how about if those incompetent federal agents who keep trying to cover up the monster attacks want to make sure that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so they quarantine all those monster hunters in a luxury hotel?
Well, if you’re already a fan of Larry Correia’s MONSTER HUNTER INTERNATIONAL series, I’m sure my description above is ‘nuff said for you. I don’t even need to mention guns, explosions, a brawl in a rotating restaurant, shattering windows, explosions, hotel rooms containing extradimensional spaces, guns, gigantic spiders, WWII weapons experiments, a chocolate fountain, mad science, explosions, slot machines, harrowing helicopter rides, Faberge eggs, explosions, guns, dragons and, best of all, Agent Franks.
So if you’ve already enjoyed the first three books, go ahead and get Monster Hunter Legion because this story is just as exciting as the previous ones. Correia widens the plot, further develops the characters, keeps up the fast and furious action, and continues to make us laugh. The whole thing is still a little too violent for me, but at least Monster Hunter Legion is less gory than Monster Hunter Alpha — more guns and explosives, fewer fangs and claws. The ending makes clear that this series isn’t finished yet. I’m looking forward to book five.
If you haven’t read the previous books, Monster Hunter International, Monster Hunter Vendetta, and Monster Hunter Alpha, you should give them a try, especially if you like great characters, cool monsters, black humor, tight plotting, nail-biting tension, and some serious gun porn. I recommend the awesome audio productions being produced by Audible Frontiers and narrated by Oliver Wyman.

MHI Fans Won't Be Disappointed
Most people reading this review have already read the three previous books in this series (if you haven't, stop reading now, and pick up "Monster Hunter International--you'll be glad you did). If so, then don't hesitate to download this book. Correia is back with a great new story, ably assisted by Oliver Wyman, who is at his best in this book.
The writing is tighter in this installment than in at least the previous two, but Correia seems to have lost none of his enthusiasm for his characters. Most of your old faves are back, plus the guys you love to hate. MHL introduces new players to the scene, and makes more expanded use of some which heretofore had been minor characters. New allies, new enemies, new monsters--with Las Vegas as a backdrop. Fans of MHI can't go wrong with this one.

Another captivating read!
The monster hunter series has blown me away, I have listened to them 3 times over I can't wait for the 6th book of the series to be released, the narrator is fantastic as always and the writer takes to on a kick ass journey, if you are wondering whether to get this book, don't hesitate buy it now!! But start with monster hunter international, legion is exactly what is needed to follow up alpha! I can't wait to listen to more and find out how the chosen one, Pitt, battles his ultimate foe.

More of the Same, Which is Fine by Me
I read all four MHI books in a flurry of credit usage one week, and thought I'd dislocate something kicking myself as they were put on sale over and over again in subsequent months. The truth though is that I thoroughly enjoyed them then and am sure (with the possible exception of Alpha) will again.
One who notices such things may wonder at how the books appear to be getting shorter and shorter. I think this represents a fair measure of how the author has improved at tightening up his plotting and really developing a good pace that keeps you engaged and wanting to continue until there's no more book for you to plow through.
The monsters remain creative and the framework of the story allows for us to run into all sorts of new baddies without having to endure loads of travel scenes, probably the only good thing that can be said about the monsters coming to you. We also get little glimpses at some of our favorite characters' origins and how they've grown. Lastly, we get more hints that we're in for one heck of an endgame, with some more players making themselves known before the main event.
Anyone who may have wandered off after Alpha is strongly encouraged to give this one a try, particularly as we return to Z's stellar first-person narrative.
